Battery Life Not Great? Check here.

Just a quick test to see if the battery in your phone is actually an issue. If you are not getting at least a day's use out of your Maxx, check the following.

Do you have free apps running? Delete them,
Free apps kill smartphone battery life

Do you have an old SD card? Format it before using with new phone
Poor battery life?? Did you just swap SD cards????

Do you have Facebook synced? Delete the connection with FB, and check manually.

Is GPS activated? Turn it off

IF all of the above is being followed, and you are experiencing less then a day of moderate use. You have a defective battery, contact Tech Support. Fight for a replacement, because you are getting screwed.

There are several things not listed that could be killing someone's battery. Screen on time for instance is in no way related to any of your suggestions. Also, task killers, battery saving apps, memory managers whether paid or free can wreak havoc with batteries in many circumstances.

I also have several free apps on my phone and they play nice with my battery. My GPS is on all the time without any noticeable impact on battery.

Are there free apps that kill your battery, sure. Angry Birds will kill my battery if I play for an hour. The paid version will to. My Facebook and G+ both sync without killing my battery.

Yeah, ummm, these suggestions aren't a "catch-all" solutiuon. Free apps suck your battery due to the ads running and being pushed, but only when you're using the app, like Angry Birds per pupkact's comment. Most, but not all, will probably use the sd card that came with the phone. Maybe a good suggestion, but who knows. And GPS on doesn't mean squat if nothing is using it. If you see the little GPS icon on all the time, then you have an app you're allowing to track your location. I have GPS on 24/7, but have disabled pretty much all settings to track my movements, and I never see it in my notification bar unless I'm using Nav or GasBuddy or something that needs my location at the time of use only. I have pathetic battery drain, and am investigating, but none of the above cures will work as none of them apply, or appear in any usage reports I run.

As pupkact and mahers have already stated, just having GPS switched on in the settings really won't affect your battery life. It only is active when an app uses it, as indicated by the crosshairs icon in the notification bar. If you have an app that's constantly using GPS, then you'd be better off addressing that from within the app itself. But leaving the GPS on in the settings really won't affect your battery life in and of itself.

Saving battery life by completely deactivating GPS in the settings is really a myth. It's not like leaving WiFi or Bluetooth on, which are continually scanning for something to connect to. It only scans to try and connect when an app prompts it to. Just like anything else on any phone, it only drains the battery when it's actually in use.

This is incredibly misleading that you should get after VZW based on the OP's post

interesting post as were the 2 other posters. You all said theres no drain if you have it on. So am i right in thinking that if you have a weather app thats set to update on location every 3 hours, thats the only time GPS will come on in that 3hr time frame? (for that app)

Yes. GPS won't stay on all the time for that app. The app should trigger the GPS to kick on every 3 hours and then turn off for the update, as long as you have GPS on. Sometimes, my weather app says I'm in one place, when I've actually driven to another city, but as soon as I manually refresh, it's fine. Or you leave it alone until the assigned update and it will do it on its own.

I have the WeatherBug widget on my homepage and rarely see the GPS. I'm set to update every hour with that.
