    Alright,

I am not sure how well the battery functioned pre-911 update, so I thought we could discuss battery drain rates post update.

Now, I don't care about newer technology meaning lower battery rates. I am an electronics technician, and I am very aware of drain rates. But this seems to be pretty lousy.

    Battery Info:
    3.7VDC
    1150mAh

Unfortunately, I haven't found an app for a stock phone that'll let me modify the boot applications, so I use Advanced Task Killer to kill off all apps except for messaging and alarm.

I have forced 2g (Edge) usage only, turned off ALL GPS support (both via GPS and triangulation), turned off background data, and killed every app once done running.

Now, if I go through an entire day on this, using only SMS messaging on vibrate mode, 14 hours of usage uses up 52% of the battery.

Now, even though I have turned off background data usage, my Edge data connection never closes. It is always present at the top. This may cause a slightly faster drain.

However, I have a feeling that some background app is causing this drain. Can anybody recommend a good task manager to view resource usage?

First off, although it's not going to make a noticeable difference, you can kill your messaging app and you will still receive texts. Secondly, check out an app called spare parts. It gives you some nice settings options and a good overview of what apps are using what resources. Lastly, I assume you've seen it in other posts but I'll say it here again: If you turn off "always on mobile" you will get a significant battery boost with almost no noticeable effects to your phones connectivity (some widgets lag when you unlock your phone but that's all I've noticed...anyone else?).

    Hope that helps.

I noticed the battery for my Dream phone was much worse post the 911 update. However, now that I have received my Magic phone, I find the battery issue has been much better.

Well, I can assure you that I have disabled all those functions. Really sad that the market will not load if "Always On" is disabled, even if you're on WiFi. As for widgets, I just run Battery Widget, because it's so much easier to check the lifespan for the battery, and it's not scheduled polling :)

That's strange. "Always on mobile" should have zero effect when your phone is unlocked. It only turns off connectivity when the phone is locked unless there is data being pushed to the phone. I can use the market just fine with it disabled.

Which "battery widget" do you use. I had previously installed one called "battery widget" but it only showed the same % as in the settings menu. Now I'm trying an app called "battery graph".

I'm pretty sure it's the same one you have. However, I got it for convenience really. If I want more details, I check through Spare Parts
