I know there are some higher capacity batteries out there. You might want to try one of those. Also depends on what your usage was like during those 4 hours. If you had your phone out playing with it for more than an hour, than I'd probably say that's about right for battery life. The screen alone will eat through your battery in 2-3 hours, not to mention data usage, heavy processor loads, etc.

Another thing I recommend is root your phone, find a ROM that gets good battery life as recommended by others (AOKP for me), flash it and then you can go in and tweak your processor settings and screen brightness levels. Those tweaks should get you at least 30% more battery life.

Also, if you were running with your screen on manual brightness, put it on auto or manually lower it to a very low level.

Let the phone adjust to the battery and learn its discharge rate. This was only your first day - though 4hrs is very short.

There is an extended battery available.

Tips:
Turn screen brightness WAY down. As low as you can stand. Screen On time is going to be your biggest draw.
Turn off sync to anything you don't NEED. I only sync Gmail, Calendar, Contacts, and browser. All others are off.
Use Wifi as much as possible as it draws far less power than mobile data.

I have more info in my signature...

And turn on 4G only when you need it.

Last I checked VW's website still had extended batteries with the door for $25 when you add it to your cart. That's cheaper than Amazon.

This is an old trick I used on my Inc to save battery if you need to use a non Gmail address. Don't set up the POP3 or internet email program on the phone. Set your Gmail account up to get the email from your other account and forward it to your Gmail. Then you only have one email app on your phone polling.
