I have the latest Kit Kat version on my Nexus 5.

Ever since I've owned this phone, I haven't been able to figure this out, but it's never really bothered me enough to dig into this any further. I figured now is about as good of a time as any to ask you all if you're experiencing this as well.

I have the battery % number displaying on the top-left in the status bar on my phone. I have not done any mods to the stock ROM nor did I make any changes to have that at the top left. In fact, I would love to get rid of it so I could get a battery app that has more options on it. But whenever I get the app, it just adds another icon on the status bar instead of replacing this one.

Anyhow, does anyone know where the setting is in the OS for this particular battery % number that is displayed for me on the top-left of the status bar by default?

I really think that's coming from an app rather than an os setting. Are you running any battery saving/monitoring apps?

Try swiping down your status bar and tapping the notification. It should take you to wherever that notification is coming from.

If it's an app, you'll need to find the settings within that app to disable the persistent notification (if there's an option).

I can't seem to find any option in any of my persistent apps for it though... I'll play around some more.

At least I know that it's not a default thing though, lol.

Okay, so I have combed through every app that could possibly be running from boot up in the background and none have the option to display this.

Can anyone identify the icon itself? Does anybody have any guesses as to which app puts that in the top left corner?

Did you try pulling down the status bar and tapping the notification? Usually that will take you to whatever app or setting is causing the notification....

There's no notification in the status bar for the battery. I don't see anything running in the apps or services (via Advanced Task Killer) that can be putting the battery meter icon out in the corner. And I have no battery (meter or otherwise) apps installed.

That's weird. Not that I don't believe you, but can you take a Screenshot of your expanded status bar?

Which battery app/apps are you using? Maybe if a couple people can look through the settings, someone might find something.

That's the ironic thing, I'm not using ANY battery app. I used to have battery minder app but if I used it, it would add a second battery % number next to that one on the top left. So I uninstalled it.
Kid you not, I have no battery app installed on my phone.

Has it been there since day one?

    Try rebooting into safe mode.

This will give us a better idea on whether or not it's coming from a user installed app.

If it goes away in safe mode, it's probably from an app you installed. So if it goes away, post up a list of installed apps and we can try to pinpoint the culprit.

It doesn't need to be a battery app. Any app that runs in the background has to have a notification in the top left.

Rather than have a redundant icon, some apps display battery info, for example, I have widgetsoid and it does the same.

Go to Settings > Apps > Running. Stop each 3rd party app until the icon disappears.

Just seen one of your screenshots, what's the toggle widget you have in your notification bar. Is it widgetsoid or power toggles or another one? Bet you its that.

It has been there since day-1 but I had the S4 before this so it could've been an app that came over when I set it up; this icon was not on my S4 though.

In safe mode, the battery number does NOT show. So it means it definitely is from an app I've installed. I have around 90 apps installed I think, so I'll have to think of a way to get a list on here for you guys to review. But that'll be tomorrow; bedtime now.

Thank you for all your help thus far! Now here it is, your moment of zen:

Good idea! Probably easier than making a list and guessing at apps. :D

You can also turn off the Light Flow icon, as it most likely isn't needed (under the Light Flow settings menu, unselect "Persistent Icon" and likely also "Run in foreground" isn't needed). This works fine for me on my Nexus 5, but you'll want to check and see if it does for you as well.

Soon as I saw this thread I knew it was the toggles app :D I switched that battery notification off from the beginning as it annoyed me. There's no default setting for battery percentage by the way, although there is that neat little app that shows it within the battery meter (only visable once the battery has drained a bit)

Which icons are you talking about? The toggle buttons for things like WiFi, Bluetooth, etc? That's from an app called "Settings Extended."
