I can not seen to find a way to display battery percentage on the top bar like I can on the GS3 and iPad. Am I overlooking something or do I have to go back to installing a separate widget for this?

Separate widget, I'm afraid. I looked for the same thing and finally just gave up. Many do it, though.
  3. They should add it back at least as an option =/

Lots of cool clock widget skins out there that display it. That's what I use.

No other stock Android versions have had this AFAIK. You'll either need to use a widget or find a ROM that features it. My Gnex has this with a custom ROM.

Dang, I really like that option on my GS3... Oh well, plenty of room for another widget at least.

Just unlock it and install a custom ROM :)

I use gauge battery widget and like it. Small and unobtrusive. Free and a cheap paid version.

I downloaded an app that displays the % in the top bar. I don't remember which one did it for sure - maybe Go Power Master.
