That sounds normal. I do notice it is used up fast but because this is my second android phone, I'm used to the fast battery drain.

The first 3 days I had the xperia play, It couldn't last 12 hours before all the battery was drained. I think I had brightness turned up to 100% and I played alot of games on it.

I learn to keep a charger at work, in the car, and home. I charge it every night and unplug it when I wake up.

Mine is lasting pretty long. With some medium usage I am getting about 20 hours per charge.

My battery life seems to be on par with my Motorola Droid if not a tad better. I am not a heavy phone user though, but it lasts me a full day without charging. I always put it on the charger at night. Because this is a gaming phone though, I have thought of getting a spare battery just to have on standby when I get the gaming itch.

I find my battery life even with pretty hard use to be fantastic. I had a droid X2 & with lite use the battery was terrible on it. Extremely pleased so far with the batt life.

I don't have time to play it until it dies because I have a wife and 3 kids.
Yesterday I plugged it at 7AM 100% full. At bead time 12AM I plugged it in and it was 32%. I used it for G Talk and to check and send a few emails. I also had one short phone call. So 17 hours 68% mainly standby time. 4% per hour.

I go through a whole 12 hour work day without needing to charge it. I have wifi and gps turned off during that time, but everything else on. I had seen somewhere on this or another forum that there was a battery reading error that could be fixed by plugging it into a computer USB. I will see if I can find it and post the link.

EDIT: The info I found was if you look at battery usage and the Android system is using excessive amounts. http://talk.sonyericsson.com/message/77463

Had my play for almost 3 weeks now, i need to do the following:

    - Turn off 3G (GRPS Only)
    - Background data OFF
    - Location Services OFF

With these settings, i can get tru the day with moderate usage (switching on 3G when i use the internet, music playback, light gaming, SMS, calls) from 7am to 9pm and have around 15% juice left.

Really wish Android can improve battery management?
