I'm interested in buying this phone but I'm not sure about the battery life. Can anyone tell me how much the battery will last if used in browsing over 3G? My currently old Nokia 6120 doesn't last more than 1 hour and a half doing that, which is pretty frustrating.

lol longer than that!!! Mines been on since 7am and have about 2 thirds battery left. And thats only 2nd day in.

Set it up properly and it will last a day at least. If you browse for an hour just plug it in while you are doing it.

Put it this way, it'll be longer than the icrap and you can always carry a spare battery in your pocket just in case.

None of the new supersmart phones will be massive running big colour screens.

The battery life is OK given the hardware the phone has. As above, if set up properly you can get a decent amount of life out of it.

Yes, the iPhone does have a longer battery life and carrying an extra battery isn't exactly ideal, but if you are willing to charge pretty much every night then it's not an issue. Plus HTC are likely to release an extended battery soon anyway.

I'm traveling a lot by train which means i can't plug it in like you mentioned, and I need my internet connection... Can you get 4-5 full hours of intense 3G usage?

"longer than that!!!" but you can achieve 4 hours with "2 spare batteries?" Now I'm confused...Can anyone give me an aproximate number of hours so i can have an idea what kind of battery we are talking about here?

Sorry I was trying to be funny, clearly didn't work! I've had the phone for 4 days and so far there is no way it will last 5 hours of internet surfing, although everyone says the battery improves after 7 days

  9. According to an application I have called BatteryTime Lite from 100% I can have 4 hours and 38 minutes of web surfing, not sure how accurate that is though.

My battery seems to be OK but when I use the Internet for say 5 minutes straight it drains the battery by about 5-10%.

. LOL didn't get it the first time:)

If you could get 4 hours of surfing with 3G it would be simply marvelous... Clearly this phone doesn't have a poor battery if this is the case.

Waiting to see if someone could test this out

I have better things to do than surf the net for 4 hours! however, I have used the phone on 2nd day online, email and downloading apps etc. Still 50% left after 14 hours. Better than my N900. I'd say on par with other kit of this ilk. you just wont get anything that works on 3g for 5 hours and last all day. There are limits. Suggest you just carry a spare battery. Or maybe one of the backup solutions available.

Yes, I travel 2 hours on the train every morning, the phone does not turn off durng these 2 hours. When I get to my destination there is ~85% battery left

I don't know what everyone else is talking about, you will be fine.

The way I see it, spare batteries aren't really a very good solution to this problem. Switching them over isn't too much of a big deal, but charging both is going to be a pain in the arse because you can only charge 1 battery at a time. Yes there is a docking station that has a secondary battery port, thus getting round that problem but it doesn't fit the Desire! I read on another post that it's for an N1 and so is completely useless. Plus the whole having to power down, take the back off, swap em out and power up again is a pretty long winded when you come to think of it!

If you are going to be a real 'power user', might I suggest something like this :

    USB TurboCharger 3400

    I tested mine ...

    WiFi on all the time
Heavy usage on web browsing and gaming

    About 10% per hour

Condition: GPS off, Bluetooh off, always on off, autosync off

So, you can do this for 10 hours more or less :)

I meant using its 3G connection for browsing not the WiFi(clearly the consumes will be greater). But still 10%/hour of usage in such conditions is great. I'm conviced. I'll order my Desire :) If I'll have any problems I'll go for the portable charger.

Excellent choice! :) You really won't regret getting a Desire they are fantastic devices. I think I'm going to get a portable charger though. I work as a tour guide over the summer and I need my phone to be on all day without fail (in case I lose any of the kids :p). I always carry a bag with me so a portable charger is the perfect solution for emergency charges, especially on the tube on the way home when I wanna bust out an hour of bonsai blast! :D

    lol so true :D

Seen a vid a few days before about a Desire extended battery which made the entire phone twice as thick. Not sure that is want i want :) The PortableCharger solution seem to be the best one for me.

Can I ask where you saw this video? Would like to see it!

Yeah I'm not exactly excited about the prospect of ruining the phones aesthetic for a bigger battery, but this is a perfect example of why android phones are better than an iPhone; users are given a choice. The 'Apple-knows-best' attitude wears pretty thin after a while.

Here's another bit of kit you might consider -

Kensington 4-Port USB Charger: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo

For charging your desire, battery pack and other devices all at once!

Excellent! Good to hear it's working well, I'm definitely considering getting one, my Desires battery life is still leaving a lot to be 'desired' :p
