First full day and 12 hours later I am at 20% with heavy use all day. I spent much of the day web browsing, on calls and playing Slacker.

I just charged mine again, I've been playing with it all day with wifi, gps, bluetooth and had about the same as you, about 20% after a full day's nonstop use. I think that's pretty good.

Straight out of the box it was at 50% charge and I used all features for about 6 hours before It asked for a recharge.

    I do love this phone.

Yeah, I'm not getting that kind of battery life out of my phone right now. According to the battery indicator it's not from my widgets but from my display.

Will the battery life get better after a few charge cycles ?

Do you think if I bought a spare battery from verizon and tried to return it, would they let me? Thanks!

seems like there must be some kind of discrepancy in the batteries and some faulty ones. i was #20 in NYC at midnight.....

Let the battery die...dead dead. then charge it to full, try not to use the phone at all during the charge, but if you have to it shouldn't be too bad.

Once it's fully charged, use it till it dies again...the battery life should double at this point. (if you currently have subpar battery time.)

Im with the other guys, my battery is less than stellar. I was expecting at least keeping up with my iphone 3G, but i'd say she's well shy of it. Just got it this morning though, so I'll let it slide as I have been messing around with it quite a bit.

Woah , wait! There is Slacker for the Droid!?! Do tell.... I love Slacker and listen to it all day everyday on my Storm , and was dissappointed a few weeks ago when I got the Touch Pro2 because there is no Slacker for Windows Mobile. Is there Slacker for Android?

maybe i have a bad battery then? fully charged when i went to work, and had it in my pocket for the most of the day (gps and everything disabled, but regular signals and such) and it still completely died an hour before i had to go home. So it lasted um 7 or so hours of minor use?

Maybe im doing something wrong. i dunno, but im not happy with the battery life of it.

I downloaded an app last night called "toggle settings" which is supposed to disable GPS, and anything else like that, and i only left "fast bright" enabled. And yet i still had the problem today.

I suppose i need to buy an extra charger for work, which is sad.

I've had wifi, bluetooth, and gps on a good portion of the day but let me break it down.
    Wifi - 3 hours
    Bluetooth - 2 hours
    GPS - All day
I used Slacker for radio in the car today.
I used Slacker for radio at home.
Slacker time = 2 hours minimum
Web Browsing = off and on all day
Browsing Android Market = 30-45 minutes
Youtube = 1 video at around 8.5 minutes
Letting my wife play with the phone = 10 minutes
Playing MP3's on the device = 30 minutes
Making ringtones on Ringdroid = 20 minutes
    Facebook = 30 minutes
I let Auto Brightness handle the display.
All-in-all I used the crap out of this thing today, didn't worry about turning radios off. I just used it like I wanted to and the new toy that it is. I ended up charging it at around 10:30pm on the multimedia dock, just took it off and turned it off once it was fully charged. I started using it at 9:00 am this morning, the battery is new and I'm always on it because it's new. I'm very satisfied with my battery life and know it will get better.

Please tell me how you conditioned your battery. Did you fully charge before use or use it right away while charging or use it right away without charging first ect. I want the best possible results for mine as well.

Normally I would fully charge out of the box BEFORE even turning it on for the first time , but it didnt turn out so well for my Touch Pro2, it had extreme heat/discharge issues ;(

    Couple more things to note...
    1. I used my Droid for USB tethering for about 20 minutes (extra charging...sorry that's kinda cheating).
    2. I ran my Droid down until it powered itself off last night, then fully charged it over night. Tonight I ran it down to 10% before charging it.

uuh i didn't really condition it in any way. i just charged it and have been using it since then. i have to say i didn't do a lot of phone calls in that eight hour period (phonecalls use a lot of battery). just some surfing/texting and randomly playing around with the phone.

i installed an app called "gps onoff" that lets you quickly turn the gps/wifi on or off. so when i don't need one or either of them i turn it off to improve battery life.

oh and i use "advanced task killer" to close open apps that i'm not using anymore from time to time.

It's called 'calibrating', you're technically supposed to do this will all rechargeable batteries.

You're supposed to charge the battery fully right after you get the phone, then, drain it, and THEN charge it fully all the way without playing with it, taking it off the charger, etc. This way, the battery will fully understand it's capacity and hold longer charges.

Yeah, that's not really true anymore. Used to be for NiMh batteries but with Lithium Ion batteries they don't need to be conditioned. In fact, it's bad to let it fully discharge.

"Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible. Instead, charge the battery more often or use a larger battery. There is no concern of memory when applying unscheduled charges."

From: How to prolong lithium-based batteries

For whatever it's worth, the battery performance on the Droid has been absolutely atrocious for me. It's 10am, it's been off the charger for 3 hours and it's already down to 40%. Pathetic. I can only imagine I have defective unit as there is no way VZW/Moto would release something like this.

i ran all day yesterday with heavy use(playing and tinkering) and i was at 10% after 13 hours.
most of the time i had wifi turned off...gps on...tooth off...

i have always said...the best way to increase your battery life is to put a spare in your front left pocket. i have one there and will probably rarely have to use it....but do swap them out from time to time to keep em fresh

Use the Power Control widget to turn off stuff you're not using(GPS, blue tooth, wifi) and taskkiller to kill apps not being used, this may help...
