Hello all. I'm glad to announce that I'm finally going to be a using an android phone, the Droid X, but it was very hard to get it at a discounted price. I have a single plan with a blackberry and my ne2 isn't till October 21 2010 and Verizon wouldn't let me upgrade till then. Yes i know i only had to wait a month and a half but i couldn't wait. So i decided to add a line which is now a family plan to get my full discount. I know you aren't able to cancel data plans on a phone that uses data. So what I'm going to do is use both phones for two months (mostly using the droid x of course) and then activate on old non data phone online in place of the blackberry. Then the month after I'm going to cancel the data plan since it is no longer a data phone. I wanted to see if anyone thinks this will work. I have worked for t-mobile for 7 years and we always knew the in and outs. Just want to hear some of you feedback. Regardless if it works or not...I'm proud to soon be owing a Droid X.

You are basically paying an extra $10 a month for that line plus whatever the taxes workout to be when you could have called customer service and had them approve the upgrade early
At the worst you would have had to pay $20 one time for an early upgrade. They approved mine 2 months in advance while I was standing in a best buy and didn't charge me anything. Since BB gives you all of your rebates up front I actually paid the same amount out of pocket that I would have paid after my rebates had come in had I waited to use my new every two at the Verizon store.

If you must have it early, activate a new line and move the X ESN to your primary line.

Some reps will allow you to apply a dummy ESN to your secondary line (ESN: 138-00000410) and remove the data plan immediately. No sense in paying for it if you really don't want to use it.

If they do not allow you to use a dummy, find an old non-data device and put that on the new 2ndary line to remove the data feature.

Just a note: you do not have to keep the data plan on your line even though you're still under contract. The contract only states that you must keep the line active for 12 (24) months, not the features.

Congrats on the new phone buddy and welcome to Android!!!

Ok, first I am moving this to the Verizon section of the forum.

    Second:

If the 2 year contract is up on your BlackBerry in October then you should be able to move the new Droid over to that line and drop the second data plan, but not the second line. If the 2 year contract is not up on your BlackBerry then you may be stuck with second data plan until it is, one of the many VZW CSRs on the site can correct me if I am wrong.

Either way, you are paying an extra amount for no reason. Take the phone back and wait a month to avoid spending the extra $250 when you don't need to.

they should have a promotion in place that lets you upgrade early as long as your upgrade date is in 2010, I would def call customer service and see what they can do for you, if the cs rep refuses calmly ask for a superviser.

I can see why you would want a Droid X without a voice plan, but it escapes me why anyone would want something like that without a data plan. You'd be better off using a dumb phone and a portable device versus something that isn't the best phone or media device.

that all sounds like it could work, but why didn't you just wait until October?

I mean, it's not even two months away.

I just called and asked. They always seem to help me out. Maybe its because I'm nice (they say that's a note on my account lol)
