The Dog Pound.
I am trying out the Beejive MultiIM app and its draining my battery quickly. So quick I am down to 50% in only 5 hours with no use, it's just running. I also hardly used anything on the phone today so it has to be Beejive killing it.

What do people use for IM that doesn't kill battery life?

I use eBuddy. But I can't tell you if it's a battery drainer or not, as I usually use it at home while charging (i have a long cord!). But I do like it. And it's free and does the same thing as Beejive, with mutli IM.

Which version do you have? The earlier betas didn't have an option to shut ip down but the new one does.

Is there an multi IM app that can run in the background not take to much battery
does eBuddy or Beejive work in the background so that you can have your phone in standby mode and when an im comes in it will alert you

I use beejive and I dont notice really any background drain because of it

You should try the free ones and see for yourself. I understand your reluctance to try the paid apps...But give the free ones a go.

I couldn't find Trillian so not sure if that is a paid app or not.

I liked both Beejive and Palringo on my WinMo, until Beejive discontinued WinMo support, so they lost my loyalty...Plus I wanted to exhaust the free apps before I paid for one as I don't IM *that* often. And I hated Palringo on Android.

That's when I found eBuddy.

Sometimes batteries can be cheap. I found a battery charger plus battery on Cellphoneshop.net for like $13, so I bought it. It might be worthwhile to just invest the $13 if it frees you up to use whatever app you prefer for IM'ing without worrying about battery drain.
