Pure Calendar. Costs $2 I think. It's incredible. I rely on it daily for work. The 4x4 widget is perfect.

    calwidget is pretty ugly though.

    Ok just tested a load.
For a full agenda widget, the app "agenda widget" is quite nice.
For a smaller widget that shows 3 items 4x2 use smooth calendar.

I am replacing my small HTC Sense widget with smooth calendar as a result :p

I use my calender mainly as a to-do list. I wasn't terribly happy with the stock calender either but I'm reasonably content using it combined with the QuickCalenderWidget. It's compact and clear and acts like an agenda for me.

Calwidget is fine for me. Looks fine as well. A bit annoyed that it cuts off part of the calendar if you have a large one.

I used CalWidget a while ago and it kept force closing on me, so I bought Pure Calendar (both agenda and grid, and I use em both) and haven't looked back since.

I tried CalWidget, and it was nice to see the agenda there on the home screen, but I tried a few more and stumbled across S2 Calender. It has a 2x1 widget (smaller is better for me), showing an entrire month in that spot. It lists the dates by color, depending on what appointment you have that day, and will underline/box/whatever you toggle for all day appoints, with the marker being in the color of that calender. When you touch the widget, it pulls up an active agenda widget allowing you to scroll ahead through your next 8 or 10 appointments, pop-up style, with each listing in the color of it's respective calender, with the date/time. I can't recommend it enough.

EDIT: having just figured out how to put in a QR, here's the one for this killer widget

Ryan, thanks for that. I gave it a quick look but I really have come to rely on the agenda being the default. I'd like to see an app that has both. Let me easily bouncing FROM agenda (as the default) to this style of calendar display for homing in on things like a free day for doctor appointment, etc.

Can't agree more....there's a real shortage of decent calendar apps for Android that are well integrated into a SINGLE, slick or polished app/widget.

FYI, I'm testing out the paid "Pure Calendar" widget on my Sprint Hero. The only key advantage it seems to have over the native HTC calendar widget is the text-only (sigh) WEEKLY LIST (aka "agenda") of everything in the next seven days. However, it's neither layered nor graphical, so it's not useful for looking for free time slots (i.e., like the Palm Pre's nice layered weekly view is). And I cannot get it to show anything other than the next seven days....cannot move to any week one wants.

Clicking on it will bring up whatever default app one tells it to use for full calendar functionality.

The same guy also has the "Pure Grid Calendar" widget. That has an option to show a monthly view with an "event timeline" that sort of tries to show event length and free time on a given day....not quite as nice as what I was hoping for, but getting there.

In my mind, one almost has to buy BOTH this guy's apps to get an Android calendar that's even close the Pre's....with both of them installed, one can at least see a text listing of the next seven days, and then jump to the other one to get SOME visual idea of free time (anyplace there's no horizontal event timeline is free time...). Much more of a pain than a single app that offers both.

Basically, I want THIS for Android....

...you can't tell from the month view image, but on the Pre, the shading is slightly colored to go with each calendar one has. Man, what a nice job Palm did on that calendar app...

I use Android Agenda Widget on one screen of my Hero. It shows me all upcoming appointments. It allows me to select which calendars to view. I can view, edit or delete appointments. I can set the update interval and best of it is free.

I have tried some of the other apps listed above and really dont think any of them compare to this. calwidget looks good on the surface but then when you click an appointment all you can do is go to the settings for the widget.

Then on another screen of my Hero I have the main HTC calendar widget displying an entire month. This shows a small icon on days where there are appointments.

The best calendar app I've ever used is on the iPhone/iPod platform - CalenGoo. I wish they'd port it over to Android.

  16. jow

Exactly, a very good, 2 column week overview, in readable format.

CalenGoo does this perfectly, on the IPhone :(

PureCalendar, CalWidget, and the others I have seen on Android are disappointing for REAL LIVE use, at least for BUSINESS USE

Also, entering an appointment is terrible in most calendars.
a decent date and time chooser would help a lot.
AnCal does a good job, but seems to have no connection to the real google-calendar.

I've just found Calendar Pad in my quest for a week view calendar. It doesn't look pretty (very Outlook-esque), but it does the job.

    Note: it's only a viewer.

Just tried to unistaal smooth calendar and am now left with the message "problem loading widget" where smooth Cal widget was. Plus now cannot put any new Widgets on home screen. Restart does no good nor does apparently killer as it doesn't see the application. HELP

Try reinstalling it from the market, then remove the widget (hold, then drag to the trash can at the bottom) before uninstalling it. No guarantees, but it might work.

(CalendarPad) Okay, now I finally have what I need in a calendar for the Eris! WhooooooooHooooooooooooooo! This is a great FREE app! I can see exactly what I want week view, month view, etc.

You can use it as an Android Widget on a home screen as well, but there's no 4x4 version or week version; when it has that it will be perfect, but this is great.

I also use CalWidget as a widget on one of the home screens and like it for seeing today and tomorrow's agenda.

Thanks everyone for testing and reporting.

Yep the way it cuts off the calender is a big problem for me. I also have a large one ;)

I've just downloaded smooth calender (thanks) and it's a much better solution for a 1x4 widget, I just wish it had the option to be completely transparent with black text.

Thanks for recommending CalendarPad; I've installed it and it looks good. On the Nexus One, at least, though, there is some sort of graphic across the top that obscures the day names and the dates. It's there in both Month and Week views. It doesn't really interfere with anything, but it doesn't seem to do anything, either, and looks bad.

I've emailed the developer about that, as well as sending him my request for a year-at-a-time view like the standard Windows Mobile calendar app has. If I get a reply I'll try to remember to post additional information here.
