I have 38 Google Talk contacts so GTalk works great for me :) I use it more than texting.

    1. Download the Forums for Android™ app!

Gtalk is your best replacment unless you need file transfer capabilities, then you will have to rely on email or MMS

i think pingchat would be good but it needs some force behind it cause so far its not catching on as most people already have 10 IM names/programs to keep track of so adding another program to that list is something that most people do really want to do.

I need one which works on Android, iphone, and dumbphones.

And free or cheap. Any ideas? Thoughts?

I looked at Beluga but now requires Facebook; no thanks.

Way too open. May not want the whole world reading my texts!

Try LiveProfile It work on BB, iPhone And Android. Nice UI Push Notification and dont use to much battery.

I use Kik, mainly because its instant just like BBM'ing. Theres almost zero lag time between you hitting the send button and the person recieving your text. Use it all the time with 3-4 of my friends and dont have many issues. You can also see when the other person is typing and when the message you sent has been both delivered and read.

KiK is great i use to use that too till they took it off the BlackBerry Market, Now I use LiveProfile it does everything KiK does but also lets you send files as well

I really wish one of these chat over data programs would hurry up and become the front runner. Right now there are just too many.

That said, I prefer WhatsApp. The interface is clean and I see actual contact names instead of usernames or PIN numbers.

I have used Ebuddy and Gochat! I think over all, i prefered Gochat. Ebuddy disconnected and stopped working one to many times for me. Gochat also tells you when the other person is typing.

No one uses Trillian? Been around for the PC forever and in my experience works better than Meebo Fring etc. I used to get logged off from those all the time. I've tried them all. It integrates Facebook AIM Yahoo you name it.

I wasn't aware IM was still popular. Facebook IM is about the only IM-ing I do.

Trillian and IMO aren't too bad. There's talk that Google is working on a BBM application for Android.

GTalk is good but it seems to lack the basic functionality of seeing when the other person is typing or transmitting to the other person when you are typing.
If anyone knows a way around this let me know.

Kik is the best. I don't know of anyone who hasn't getten rid of their blackberry for an Android or iPhone.

I also like how you can text a group of people.
