Just flashed my phone recently and going to play with CM7 for awhile. My biggest reason for flashing was to improve battery life so can anyone recommend a good kernel that will improve a stock battery without completely slowing my phone to a crawl and killing some basic gaming apps?

There are some good ones for aosp. Incredikernel, tiamat, and invisiblek to name the top ones. Really i would suggest trying them for yourself. What's good on my phone may not be on yours. That being said incredikernel has been the most stable for me. I can go most days on one charge under heavy usage.

If you want to stay with stock ROM, I would suggest HeyItsLou#8, I have had pretty good success with that. I found it slightly more reliable than incredikernal on stock. #8 performs pretty well while using the phone, but when you aren't using it, the battery use is pretty flat-line minimal.
