I HATE the stock messages widget and how it takes up a whole screen. I found this one, messages-widget - Project Hosting on Google Code I really like it and it only takes up half the screen. Looks like it's been around for a while, but less than 500 downloads. What is everyone else using?

Personally I prefer Handcent, and it's free.

OP is looking for a widget, not an app

Handcent SMS does include a 'widget', but it's nothing more than a 1x1 icon that gets a green dot when you have an unread message.

Well, Chomp sms has a new widget and it's probably the best I have seen so far. Doesn't have scrolling but if pure can do it I am sure he will figure out a way to do it. It's worth checking out as chomp is about the best sms app in my opinion...

I like the stock messenger app, and the pure widget is a nice little preview for texts

Does anyone know if these messaging widgets work with Google Voice?

Does the stock messaging app still have that problem on 2.1 where it leaves your phoen awake?

I've been using this since the beginning, and I really like it also.
I really like the "dedicated conversation" or "dedicated contact" function.
The user is able to customize it nicely, very appealing to the eyes.
I only wish that it had a button which would mark ALL unread messages read though, I use the LP messaging widget for that lol

Launcher pro plus has a good widget, plus you can swipe the dock to preview.
