I want to know your thoughts on the best no root wyfi teather program. It has to be free (OK I'm cheap).

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

I use PdaNet. It is free for all browsing except that after a certain period of time, you're not supposed to be able to access https:// sites. I have had it for about 2 months and can still access hhtps:// sites.

There are others out there but PDANet is pretty painless and works well IMHO.

    1. PDANet
    2. EasyTether Lite

I tried EasyTeather Lite and it worked. But where I needed it was a hole of bad coverage. Enough to get a phone call out but internet was SEVERLY restricted. My friend was impressed. But not the perfect solution she needed.

PDANet and the like let you tether your phone from computer through USB or Bluetooth. With root WiFi tethering the phone is transformed into a WiFi hotspot allowing multiple computers to connect.

    Two different things....

For me this was the single biggest reason to root.

None of these programs will do wifi tether. Bluetooth and USB maybe. Wifi tether can only be achieved with a rooted phone.

I must be an idiot, but I downloaded the EasyTether lite and all the drivers for the computer, and It still won't work.

should Easy tether be turned on on the phone before attaching the usb?

Is there any set up on the computer I have to do?

When I try to use the set up dial up network on my computer I put in #777 for the phone number then no password nor username and it begins to connect, then tells me I need a username and password.

I have 3g tethering check marked I still get no connection automatically.

    any advice?

So do you have easy teather started before plugging in your usb to your phone?

when the options come up for Charging .... mass storage ... or Tethered mode, which do you choose?

Did you have to do anything other than download the drivers on your computer?

It was very "plug and play" for me. After the app was installed on the phone and the drivers on the pc, I just plugged in my phone and followed the instructions from there.
