Hello everybody, for the past year, I have been using Handcent SMS, but with recent updates, it's gotten very buggy and slow. I've been trying out other sms applications like chomp sms and go sms pro and they work a lot faster, but their themes just look so ugly.

Could anybody recommend an sms app that both looks nice and works fast?

Does Go SMS require that the MMS.apk be installed to correctly handle picture messages?

Best, ugly, and "looks nice" are all highly subjective words. You need to qualify what you specifically mean rather than assume that everyone's interpretation of these words is identical. Clearly, quite a few posting in this very thread don't seem to think that GoSMS is ugly enough that they can't use it.

Is Handcent the only messaging app that you like the looks of?

For me with GOsms I dont use the themes I have it all set as black background and 2 different greys for the conversation.
Simple, efficient and looks good to me.

Sounds very similar to my setup. I turned the speech bubbles off too because they were too iPhone like.

Been using Handcent. Trying out GOsms starting tonight. I did uninstall Handcent having previously uninstalled stock messaging since Handcent does not need it. GO apparently can run without it, but it prefers to use it, so I had to restore stock messaging. I may try it without MMS.apk in a day or so.

Handcent would display a message over the lock screen. GOsms does not, but it does flash the message in the notification line of the lock screen. As soon as you unlock, the message is displayed. Not sure which I like better.

I do not do a lot of messaging so no major issues for me. I like the look of GO and love their other apps. I'll give it a try.

I have noticed some lag on my Atrix as well. (Not all the time, but more then usual.) I have sent them the problems and hope for fixes in future updates.
