Best sub 4.3" phone?

Currently on TMo but possibly willing to switch. I don't want a huge phone, but I don't want an underpowered little cheapo phone either. Any recommendations?

Galaexy s4 mini vs Sony Xperia z1 compact?

I haven't used a Xperia z1 Compact, but just comparing specs it looks better then the S4 Mini.

The HTC One Mini is another option, it's 4.3 inches.

The Z1 Compact is certainly the most powerful of those. Other "mini" phones are mid-range handsets borrowing styling from the flagship, while the Z1 Compact is a high-end phone in a smaller body.

Sony Xperia Z1 Compact, no contest.

All the other mini devices have reduced specs while the compact retains almost all of the features of the larger flagship device.

I haven't heard any rumors yet, but there's a chance Sony may release a Z2 compact, so if you can wait out a little longer it would be worth it.

A question, why 4.3 inches? Is there something wrong with bigger screen sizes? Or are you worried about the actual footprint of the phone? Consider that newer phones are smaller than their previous counter parts but have bigger screens. For example, an S3 mini is smaller than a Galaxy S but it has the same 4inch screen. An S2 has a 4.3in screen, but the phone itself is about as big as an S3 with a 4.7in screen.

Yes to be precise I am mostly concerned about overall footprint. The footprint of the iPhone 4 and LG Optimus F3 is probably the largest I would want, and that corresponds to about a 3.5-4.3" screen size. Actual screen size doesn't matter (but there aren't any modern phones with 2" bezels).
