Best way to register Note in ATT system? Come from iphone 4

So I bought a Note, but need to know the "procedure" or best way to switch my iphone 4 to Note using ATT service?

I'm on the "Data Unlimited for iPhone" data plan. Is this the right plan or is there a different one I need?

Should I just go into the Att store and tell them I need the sim card and tell them I'm on a smartphone? Or should I just call and tell them something?

After seeing some of the horror stories of people getting their plans canceled, or AT&T flat out refusing to honor the device because they don't carry it, I would suggest going to buy a Samsung Galaxy S II, upgrading to the Unlimited 4G package, then returning the phone for your refund. Then you have the Android Unlimited 4G package, which you will have no problem with on your Note.

Thats what I did.

The iPhone Unlimited Data is different than what you need for the Note.

"I" would turn of the iphone "for good", switch to the $15/mo. "MediaNet" plan, get a new full sized SIM card, and then enjoy my Note. FWIW, I'm currently using T-Mobile branded Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus on AT&T's MediaNet w/full UMTS support.

I did the same thing last Thursday going from an iPhone 4 to the Note. I took the apn directions to the local ATT and they switched my sim card and set up the phone. And I'm on the same unlimited plan as I was on the iPhone.

Everyone at AT&T has been extremely helpful...

Aren't the people trying to use MediaNet plans on the note the ones that are getting disconnect notices because the Note is showing up as a tablet in AT&T's system?

FWIW, I have never had an issue with walking into an AT&T retail shop with directions and getting them to activate a device. The retail employees are always really helpful, if a little clueless at times. Try to not be a jerk and show up when they are busy so they have some time to work through the instructions without their manager bugging them about taking too long.

I don't think its the plan that is the issue, so much a its the IMEI # used for the Note at AT&T, which I believe is resolved ...especially given that I'm using a "tablet" (again, Samsung) on MediaNet.

I had an iPhone 3GS. I brought it to a small AT&T store where they removed the SIM card from the top of my iPhone and inserted into my Note (I received a German version of the Note from amazon).

We couldn't get data on my Note (phone worked fine) using the APN settings I had found on the internet, so the AT&T guy tried to switch my unlimited data plan to a tablet. That didn't work either and he switched me back to a smartphone.

Finally, I went home and tried a different set of APN settings that I had found in a review of the Galaxy Note at amazon (cingular settings). I then did a factory reset of the phone. It WORKED!

I have posted my up and down speeds elsewhere on this forum. I was told by this AT&T guy that because my phone is unlocked, I will not get LTE speeds with it (even tho it is capable). I am getting 3g and HSPA. I will have to investigate whether this is true.

I LOVE the phone. It is zippy and elegant. The stylus is awesome, too.

I hope you got your issue worked out.

I saw your solution after I posted my response below. I was told by the AT&T guy that I would not be able to get LTE speeds because my phone is unlocked. But you're saying if I upgrade to a 4G plan using an AT&T 4G phone (I had an iPhone 3GS and unlimited data), I could then get LTE speeds on my Note? Did you have to change the APN settings on your Note, as well, or did you just swap the SIM card from the SII into the Note after getting the new plan attached to your SII phone #?

I am not clear how these data plans work. I didn't realize an unlimited plan wouldn't apply to any phone and I didn't realize that I couldn't get LTE speeds if the phone was capable and ATT offered it. Do the APN settings regulate what speed one is able to get with one's phone, provided the phone is capable of LTE?

Sorry if my questions are dumb.

But thanks for the tip.

I don't understand the comment regarding procesor requirements and LTE networks...core switches with dozens of ethernet, and multiple gigabit fiber uplinks, have been managed by sub 500mHz processors for years. Why would a 1.5Ghz dual-core processor be reqired to "handle" (1) 42Mbps LTE connection?

There is no requirement. The Exynos chipset simply doesn't support LTE. That's why the Snapdragon chipset is used instead.
