    The Sprint HTC EVO 4G

The Sprint HTC EVO 4G is the world's first Android powered WiMAX 4G phone. It is the best of any HTC device available today in terms of power, features and craftsmanship. Starting with a colossal 4.3" screen and fast Snapdragon 1GHz processor, the EVO 4G stands out above all the rest. HTC paid attention to all the details with this phone, starting with Sense UI, which is a skin that improves upon the looks of the Android 2.1 operating system by creating a smart user interface with several added features which produces a richer, more elegant user experience. HTC Sense compiles quite a few entertaining home-screen widgets that include the new "Friend Stream" which brings together Facebook updates and tweets into one live stream.

The EVO 4G will be available on June 4th for $199.99 with a 2-year contract. Shortly after it's release, the operating system will be updated to the newest Android 2.2 OS, which is now being shown on the HTC Nexus One. Android 2.2, code name "Froyo" (frozen yogurt) includes the JIT Compiler, a first for Android that promises increased speed and performance never before seen on a phone. Add WiMAX 4G service which has the ability to run up to 10 times faster than most 3G phones and Sprint has a winner on their hands.

The beautiful HTC EVO 4G looks remarkable with its stylish design and its solid, curvey lines give you the impression of quality when you hold it. It features a touch screen with pinch-to-zoom, which is accurate and smooth. The phone also has four soft buttons at the bottom for Home, Menu, Back and Search.

    Wallpaper

The EVO 4G comes with the stock Android backgrounds, including all the "Live" backgrounds found on the HTC Nexus One. It also includes HTC's "Live" backgrounds. Plus you can use just about any picture you take with the camera or download from the web in 480x800 resolution.

    Voice Recognition

Use the voice-recognition feature to write texts and e-mails messages or do voice searches with the HTC EVO 4G. It also comes with an on-screen keyboard with a good spelling correction facility and versatile shortcuts for numbers and punctuations. Due to it's large screen, the EVO 4G keyboard is one of the best on any phone.

    Camera

The HTC EVO 4G comes with an excellent 8-megapixel autofocus camera which captures 5:3 wide angle still images at 800

When I was chatting with Sprint they told me wired USB tethering won't be available. Hopefully they have no idea what they're talking about

my understanding was the wired tethering would be free and that this was something htc put in there.

I thought wired tethering was free because Sprint can't tell whether it's your device connecting or another. It only sees that your device is not in tether/hotspot mode.

yeah i think your right.....when u use the hotspot app, that is when sprint can tell but i think the wired tethering is from htc and sprint sees this as regular data.

    Great review, Bill.

I know it would take a lot of time, but would you mind writing up the procedure for taking a screenshot on Android? I heard that it involves installing the SDK and so on...but you seem like an expert!

It works on the Evo without the need to root (for some reason).

Wait, really? What? Can someone confirm this with a video? If so, it should be publicized!

I have the ShootMe screen grabber app. It takes about 1 minute to install the app and to learn how to use it. I spent 2 days getting the SDK installed and that's because I have 64-bit Windows 7 and the SDK didn't have a USB driver that worked with my system and the EVO. I have it working now and I have an updated driver. I'll take the time to do a write up on installing SDK on your computer and I'll include a download for the updated driver.

Edit: Like SprintFun said, you don't need root for ShootMe. At least not unless they change it later. I don't have root and it's working.

Outstanding review Bill! Always top notch.

I saw an EVO dummy phone today and it's even more beautiful in person than staring at it online until my eyes melt. I can't wait.
