"Y is what X should have been" Is something someone always says every single time something new is announced or comes out. It doesn't make any sense. Companies are always working on their next set of products and they do not work on only one at a time. There are already rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S3. An article showing that an even newer phone is in the pipeline should be as surprising as an article that says the sky is still blue.

This might be the new Atrix and the release date isn't known. As dguy has said, it shouldn't surprise anyone that Moto is working on another phone.

It does look like they just rushed the Bionic to market (after they found out Tegra doesn't play nice with LTE and had to redesign everything) with a cheap Pentile screen while this is what they truly wanted to make.

You're absolutely right to some extent. But keep in mind, the Galaxy S2 has been on the market since April-May, and there are no renders or anything other than guesses on the S3, which is expected only in 1H 2012.

The Bionic on the other hand, hasn't been out a full month and a phone with almost the exact same specifications already has multiple renders and a spec sheet to go along with it.

There is always the next product around the bend, but you have to admit this seems abnormally fast even for the ultra speedy mobile electronic market.

I think it's absolutely AWESOME! I love this phone, and it will last me for a year or so. I think its very exciting to see technology go so fast. As much as I love this phone, I'm already excited for my next one. When I do get one next year, I don't want it to be just a little better than this one, I want it to kick the bionics ass! And then the next year I want one that will put that one to shame! KEEP'EM COMIN'!

How about a dual-core LTE version of the "money never sleeps pal; just made $800,000 in Hong Kong gold" Gordon Gekko special!

    'sup CK?!

given the reference in those focus group docs to kevlar material and diamond spun chrome, it certainly seems likely that the phone they were discussing is the Spyder. give it an unlockable BL (which Moto has been promising), and i could be all in for this device.

LOL! I had one. it got so hot on phone calls it hurt my cheeks. It also failed to receive more than 70% of calls, when I was at home. I got tired of the bad reception, got a Kyocera which was similarly afflicted, and switched that out for an LG8300 which has fantastic signal-capturing ability. My Storm is less capable in that regard, and from the on-screen SS icon, I'd say the Bionic is MARGINAL, but Ive yet to miss a call.

The core i7 is what the Pentium II should have been. Trans Atlantic flight is what riding on a sailboat should have been. Honest, open, loving marriages are what trading females for land and protection should have been.

First off, your guess is just plain wrong. Bionic wasn't a redesign. It was originally designed as the device you see today. The "first" bionic was scrapped altogether. This device is a completely different phone.

Second - What many people don't realize is that just because different phones have the same specs does NOT mean they are equal.

Case in point - why do you think Bionic users generally see 12+ hours of battery life while Thunderbolt users generally see less than half (i know there are outliers here, so don't go flaming if you're out of the "norm")

The Bionic's battery isn't twice the capacity of the TB.

Similarly, the Bionic has had a lot of work that went into it for making zipper and more stable software, properly matching accessory products as well as software to go along with it. (plug your bionic into a car dock or another accessory dock. Those shift to different modes are nice touches that don't just build themselves)

You can't simply just stick stock android on a phone and put in latest hardware and expect it to work. I know that very few people have the engineering background to understand this, but realize that that is also why Apple takes so long to release their phones. Good things take a while.

The comparison of phones purely based on specs is like saying two athletes who have same size, speed, and "metrics" will perform the same on the field. You can't measure the intangibles (and athleticism), but it will show up during the "season" (life of your phone usage)
