Black Background on stock text messanger?

I am having trouble finding the option. My note 5 had it so I assume that it is also possible on the note 9.

Does anyone know how to make the background dark/black? I find this saves battery since I use text for my work almost all day.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I don't have a Note 9, so don't know what options its built-in message app has. Just look in the message app's settings for either theming or "night mode"/"dark mode" I would expect.

If it really doesn't have it, there are a vast number of alternative SMS apps that do. There's no need to put up with an app that doesn't do what you want just because it's the one the manufacturer bundled.

That option is no longer available, all my other notes 3-5 had it.

Solution: Select Themes. Find a plain black one.

The background of the text messages is pulled from whatever theme is selected. Kind of a weird way to do it, but it works.
