Black Taskbar

How do you make the task bar at the top of the droids screen a different color. I tried the themes in the market that showed a black taskbar but no luck with any of them actually changing the color of the task bar.

I'm using gde if that makes any difference.

one possibility is to wait til its rooted and apply a theme

But I have seen it on screen shots but I guess those aren't necessarily droids. This is really driving me crazy. It seems so simple. I have a little experience in programming so I am wondering if that is a possibility. I just wouldn't know where to start.

black? woudnt it be hard to see certain notifications?

If the font was white I don't see there being an issue unless the icon is black. Which I don't believe I have seen an app with a black icon.

Definitely need to root the DROID first and apply a theme/rom with a modified notification bar.

Anyone heard any updates on any progress with rooting for the droid.

Those screens are likely not droids. My wife's Eris has a black bar. And I agree, I'm jealous. I can't believe it would require a root. Bummer.
