Spam group messages are driving me nuts!

I found three articles all explaining how to block. They all say the same thing. My phone does not match the instructions.

    The instructions say:
    1. Select message from sender you want to block
2 Click the three dots in the upper right
    3. Click people and options
    4. Select block

First three steps are fine. Last step...there is no block option.

    What is up with this?

    Welcome to Android Forums, JessicaSales!

Sorry to hear you're being bombarded with spam messages. They get you everywhere now, you know? Phone, e-mail, text...

Anyway, can you please post a screenshot of what you're seeing after you select People and Options?

Also, prior to that, when you're just viewing your list of messages, have you tried long-pressing on a spam? Doing that should bring up a row of icons at the top of the screen, one being the 'no' symbol (circle with a line through it). See if that blocks it.

I notice you're still on Android 7.1.1--but your AT&T Z² should have upgraded to 8.0.0 (mine did). Check in System Settings for an update, and if it's available, do it!

    Thank you for responding.

This video shows the long tap with hold, then releasing that click, followed by opening the message to show the three dots, then clicking on the three dots.

The offending message is a group spam message. I am thinking the group message offers different options in the menu than regular messages.

ok so with group messages you need to hit the 3 dots and then select "group details". under options select "notifications" next select and turn off "show notifications". you will not be notified when this particular group text gets send out.

there is no blocking feature for this kind of spam at the moment. this was the only way i found to not get notified from a particular group text.
