Help Bluetooth Keyboard

I have just bought a Microsoft Universal Mobile Keyboard. It's great, except for one thing - some of the keys for which I use the shift key, such as %&£, are mixed up, which I could get used to even though it is rather tiresome, but the £ key does not work at all. I have tried every key combination to no avail. I have switched from the LG keyboard to the Google one, and some others also, no luck. Checked the language settings, all good.
If I then connect my Nexus 5, it works flawlessly, likewise my wife's ipad.

Any suggestions gratefully received, before I go mad...
