So I have been using JerryScript's BACKside IHO build and it's cool but I was wondering what people who use Bob's build think of that ROM. I'd like to hear about any reasons people prefer one of these ROM's to the another. Also I'd like to know what the 2.3.7 update on Bob's build offers that is different if there is really anything.

Why don't you make a backup of the ROM you have and then try out the other ROM's in the Github. That's half the fun, ain't it? Come on, you can do it. It's easier than changing a baby's diaper.

That is a fair point. Just loading all my texts and contacts and apps with titanium backup is a bit of a pain. But I guess you do have a point

You contacts should be a part of you google account and should be there on you phone after you sign in.

In Titanium Backup go to the Backup/Restore option, then press the menu key and select "Batch" option, then select the "Backup all user apps" option.(I always do this just before flashing a new ROM in case I downloaded an app or two that didn't get backed up on one of the schedules I use).

After flashing the ROM and signing in,go to the market and download Titanium backup. Then go to the Backup/Restore option, hit the menu button again, and then "Batch",then this time scroll down and select the "Restore missing apps with data" option. Walk away for about 7 to 10 min.(this is a lot quicker than doing it one app at a time) This is the only option you can use. YOU MUST NEVER install a system app as this will corrupt the new ROM. The new ROM might have an app(or a few) that comes with it that you have already downloaded before, but is now installed on the system.

As far as your text, they should be stored in a file somewhere. Just transfer that file to a file on your PC, then when you have flashed the new ROM just transfer them back.

If you have a lot of contacts that are just on your phone ,do the same thing to them that you did to the text.

Now doesn't that sound a lot easier?

Yes I agree but we do have to take the good with the bad. I've been running BobZhome ROM for a little while and I like it. I think it's zippier and with the new smartassv2 governer, I'm running 787 with no reboots whereas with BackSide, it would randomly reboot at 767. (Can't remember exact numbers because the wife is playing angry birds again). I haven't tried the BackSide ROM since JerryScript switched to Bobs kernel. I like them both and recommend them both in my posts but I do want to encourage trying out the other ROMs that are available to us here. These ROMs fit me, but may not fit you. I geuss that's why some people are still using Froyo ROMs because they just fit.

So I tried out BobZhome ROM last night. Took about 2 hrs actually to download everything, backup everything, wipe everything, flash, and then restore stuff. I noticed however that I had MUCH less space with BobZHome ROM and I don't know why. I was hovering around 40 mb available with everything installed and even moving the same things to the SD card while with JerryScript I am around 100 mb available. If anyone knows I did something wrong please let me know. That for me was a dealbreaker so I restored the backup I had made. In any case this was a good learning experience and it's good to know that I can do this. Also I noticed that LauncherPro makes the App Drawer a TON faster than ADW. I always experience some sort of lag in the app drawer but not with LauncherPro. However I don't like only having 3 docks so I'm going to stick with ADW for now. I still didn't try BobZHome too long so I still haven't really seen the benefits of 2.3.7 haha

The reason you didn't have as much space as Jerry's build is because I have the dalvik-cache in your data partition. I wanted it out of cache to avoid the new market problems people have been complaining about. If you want more space in your data partition, you can grab "Darktremor A2SD GUI" free from the market here: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.elgubbo.a2sdGUI&feature=search_result ,it will move the Dalvik-cache for you.

    EDIT:
Forgot to mention that you can have up to 7 home screens(docks) with Launcher Pro ;)

Hey Bob, quick couple of questions for you. I installed your 9/21 build ROM (it was the latest at the time) after encountering issues with the latest version of BACKside. It's running flawlessly on my phone right now.

You already answered my first question above as to why this ROM was taking up more space. Next, I see in the 9/25 build you mentioned fixing bluetooth. Is it not working properly on my build?

Finally, I had read your note about needing a partition on the SD card for your ROM. From what I know, I don't think I have one. Like I said, everything seems to be working great and I haven't ran into any problems. Do I need to go back and do this? I'd really like to keep things as they are right now. What are the dangers if any running your ROM as is on my phone without the partition?

    Thanks!

The new IHO-CM7 ROM's and Launcher Pro sometimes don't get along. I have one of those processors that isn't the best. I fixed the force closure and random reboot, and minor system glitches by running the "Fix Permissions" option in ROM Manager.
This info is for those with a not so excellent processor, in case Launcher Pro(which I think is an excellent launcher) causes problems with a ROM. I have found the two biggest culprits in most of my problems with the new IHO-CM7 ROM's(due to a slightly inferior processor) is installing the theme with the ROM,and Launcher Pro.
If you are having problems with a new IHO ROM and did any of the two listed things prior to or during the install, then Re-install the ROM but wait until at lest 2 reboots of the ROM to install the theme. With Launcher pro just run the "Fix Permissions" option in ROM Manager.

I've got the License for Launcher Pro as well as Multipicture Live Wallpaper + picasa and would not give them up for nothing. I would delete a ROM that was acting badly with them, and go to my backup ,before giving up Launcher pro. The above mentioned things have made it so I can enjoy all the ROM's out there now.

Yes, you will hear a hissing sound if you make a call using a BT headset.
If everything is working good without the partition, then don't worry about it. Moral of the story is: Don't try to fix things if they are not broken.

OMG, this is a perfect ROM, I have flashed almost every ROM out there and all had some kind of glitch. I use Bluetooth and my biggest problem was the power button would kill the call instead of turning off the display. Bob fixed this and it works perfectly!!! Thank you so much Bob for a perfect ROM and thank you for fixing the Power Button so it does not kill the call. The bat life is great and the ROM is fast and smooth. I just came from a froyo ROM with great bat life but I must say this ROM also has great bat life and is so so so much better with all the options. I have been checking services and all are shutting down like they should. Once again this is a perfect ROM, I will never go froyo again and I am sticking with this ROM. When I get some money up I am going to be giving a donation for a job well done. In any future updates please make sure the Power Button stays exactly like you have it because it works great!!! Anybody flashing a ROM make sure you try the November 19, 2011 build, it is perfect...Thanks again Bob "Well done"...

Even though I use Jerry's rom (based on Bob's I think), I sure do enjoy reading killer reviews like the one rob wrote about Bob's rom. That's just so awesome to see someone so happy!

They are both based on Iho although Bob has seemed to have taken over on the kernel end which awesome. I actually haven't tried his rom because backside was out when I switched from Harmonia and Bob had not released a rom yet but his rom has really jumped out of the gate since then.

You don't need an ext partition to run the ROM.

While on a call, turn the volume up and then down again using the volume rocker on the side of the phone.
