I recebtly tried to make a nandroid back upon twrp but every time I try it get the error can't create back up, I'm trying to get it backed up to my external SD as I don't have enough on my device, any ideas why it won't create a back up?

Twrp has trouble mounting SD card on certain s3 models.

    Try Philz recovery instead

I thought I saw something about Twrp backs up to phone by default. It did on mine, so picked up the file and put it in external SD card and on PC. Not a lot of good backing to phone when phone gets wiped when putting on new rom. :D

Custom recovery doesn't wipe internal SD (data/media) when wiping or factory reset.

I wasn't sure, so backed file as said out of the way, in case. Thanks for the info though. :D

yeah PhilZ will make the back up to either internal or external and the only TWRP that works for external storage is the one made by Team Octos....but they haven't released it yet cause they don't think it's stable enough for the general public/non-testers of their 5.0 alpha......

I'm glad they decided to hold off on the release. The last thing a person needs is their recovery to fail on them. That wouldn't be fun at all.

I love PhilZ but would like to see a working version of TWRP.
