I called T-Mobile and inquired about service and such, they are basically like boost now these days, you buy the phone out right, and go month to month, no contact. Only way you are on any sort of contract is if you decide to go with paying for the phone on payments, then you are on a payment plan until the phone is paid off plus the monthly fee, after the phone is paid off you are then on a month to month basis . A scenario would be if a phone is say $400, I plop $400 down plus tax and then pay a normal monthly fee, no contract .
I will say boost vs T-Mobile.......boost offers better data plan.... Tmo = $60 for 3gb, boost mobile = $60 for 5gb. On the flip side of that T-Mobile does offer a much better phone selection than boost does.
In short boost = better/more data plan and T-Mobile = better phone selection.
Boost however does not offer shrinkage anymore at all unless you are grandfathered in, but at this rate they may cut that to sadly.

So there you have it a comparison of boost vs T-Mobile. Hope this will help some decide what they want to do.

I personally may switch over to T-Mobile, simply because boost seems to be choking us out of benefits over other services, they just don't offer much of an incentive anymore. With t-mobile I can at least go a nexus 5 right now and be month to month still.
At the moment though I am sticking with boost simply because I have only had this phone for 7 months or so, so it is fairly new, that and I and I am grandfathered in with shrinkage.

I haven't inquired about other companies, so I can't vouch for others, only these two.

TMO is great coverage, customer service. But still pricy. GSM is a TON easier to work with than CDMA. And true, phone selection is better since you can use att phones also.

I would go back if they dropped prices even more. But happy with the reformed boost. Maybe when my promotion with boost is over, I'll check tmo out again. But like the forum here and s3 is always my go to phone.

Yeah just about everyone throttles so the only way to get away from that is paying more for more data but I'm leaning towards cricket wireless because AT&T bought aio wireless and cricket and they're merging to become one huge gsm network meaning better coverage running on at&ts network plus you can buy and use any phone that supports gsm just make sure you get a sim and the plan would be 40 a month 2.5 throttle cap but still at least if im going to be throttled I'll actually use the data now I'm using on wifi or just turn data off because of how spotty the coverage is in my area the only time I can really use data is when I'm in the city or somewhere like that

I'm also considering T-Mobile they're plans aren't bad at all the real part is going to be choosing the best phone because everything is so expensive off contact so it depends on how much you want to put down for the 2 phones I'm sure in the long run you would be happier though and actually be able to use the data sprint network is already trash then they have the audacity to not upgrade it and throttle even harder im not feeling this and I've been with boost for the 5 years but I'm leaning towards cricket because of that AT&T coverage

I just checked out their website and they're now 50 a month... :(

I'll probably be sticking with the crappy service boost mobile... I think I would like to go to tmobile for their better service but I don't want to drop a thousand dollars for two new GSM phones

Well, whoever decides to stick around in here, I'll be right here with ya. I haven't had this phone long at all and Boost service really isn't that bad in my area. The 4G service areas are spreading quickly now and that's a plus too. It would be a different story if I really used a lot of data when I'm out and about but I don't. I do all of my major downloading from my pc. Yep..... I'll definitely be with Boost for at least another year or so.

I just dropped down to the last step in my shrinkage plan. Pretty awesome paying 40 bucks a month for everything. And this S5 is sick! I'll be around for a long while.

Typo that's what I meant 50 but those who aren't grandfathered in to the shrinkage and are just starting boost have to pay 50 anyway so it's only a 10 dollar difference in not going anywhere soon just considering it because it still takes a lot of money to really leave boost you need a new plan and a new phone and knowing myself I want a good one not a crappie budget one so for now I'll just be saving up an hope boost does something spectacular lol

I too have started entertaining the prospect of switching carriers... just that right now, I really don't have the money to go paying a whole lot more a month. That doesn't mean I haven't been looking. Sprint proper offers fullly unlimited talk, text and data (plus 5gigs of authorized tethering) for $110/month... which is ridiculous, since it obviously will require a contract and the obligatory taxes and fees.

    T-Mobile claims a fully unlimited + 5GB of authorized tethering for $80/month.

Heck, I don't even do that much tethering to begin with... it was mostly to facilitate my Nintendo (3)DS systems... so unless I felt like buying a download copy of a game and downloading it only from the tethering, I doubt I'd even be using that much at any one time.

I just know that I'm still kinda meh when it comes to GSM phones and the technology in particular. It may be in large part because of the sour taste I had from AT&T, but I can safely say that I've never had a GSM phone that didn't buzz the speakers when a call came in. And I know that AT&T never worked as a phone whenever I was indoors anywhere.

Supposedly the limitation with CDMA was that it couldn't send data and voice at the same time, but I can safely say since even the OneSV that I had before my S3, that doesn't appear to be a problem anymore.

Yep. Noticed the change when I had my OneSV too. It's definitely nice to be on the speakerphone with someone and have the ability to look up information on the Internet if need be.:D

Yeah GSM is more universal if you ever travel. A much easier to work with as far as ROMs go. And definitely a sim card to a different phone is easier.

Well I'm not leaving boost for a while... I just bought me the S5. got 50 bucks off from best buy and used a 50 gift card I got from best buy when I bought the s3, so I paid 100 less :) ... online they offer $50 gift card, go in store and buy then after say where's my $50 bucks? They'll say it's for online orders only, then say OK refund this phone and ill order it online right now right here and I will pick it up right now here at the store, then just make them work with you and maybe you will get the $50 off the phone on the spot like I did....

Also this s5 takes and comes with a SIM card, so I can switch providers in the future...

I'll be giving the s3 to my wife so I'll still be active in here, only quite a bit less... this is the best forum I've ever been in so I can't leave.

Ps. Already rooted, twrp, hotspot, and made a backup... be testing a rom or two this weekend and will be waiting for MOAR....

    +1 on that comment.

I honestly hadn't even checked the price on them until you said something about the discounts. WHEWEEE that puppy isn't cheap! I bet it's bad to the bone though.

Yes. It's bad to the bone. I would never have gotten it for myself but I was half way joking about boost having it available and my wife surprised me with an early grad school graduation and father's day gift!

What's the best 4.4.2 cm build for the s3 right now? I'm going to try and port pixel ROM over for you guys

    Isn't that only when you're on 4g? I believe it's a limitation of 3g.

S5 can't do in call surfing... probably on WiFi it can, I'll need to check when I get home.

  20. jdsingle76

    jdsingle76 Android Enthusiast

It can on Wi-Fi but not while connected to 4g or 3g. Samsung took that away when they went triband with the s5.

Bro, I didn't have 4g in my area then. I'll check it in a bit.

The wife just got home and going to spend some time with her. I'll get back to you and let you know what's up.

No, I can use the phone and download over 3g. Do it all the time. I am not as sure about LTE but I think that works too. On the S3, that is.

It would not do this on the Prevail. I would get a call and lose my download. I had the SV for a month but I don't remember.

S3 and S4 have that capability but they took it away with the S5

What sux is that it will probably be a while before those extra bands would do much for me in my area. I am still not sure what is going on with the LTE rollout. I had LTE everywhere a month ago, including my house and now mostly 3g. LTE isn't official yet, it is like they were testing and suddenly pulled the plug. Except in a few areas.

Trying the latest build of AOKP. Loving it so far. Came out 5-24 I believe.
