How would I get boot animation downloaded and installed on my phone?
instead of the htc page then the sprint 4g sign pop up, I've seen people have the nexus X and r2d2 robot. I thought it was pretty cool and I wanna do that to my phone as well.

It can easily be done through root explorer. This is the method I used but I'm not running a Sense ROM so I'm not sure if that makes a difference. First thing is download a boot animation to your Shift. You can find some here Android Themes - xda-developers Once you've downloaded one, open root explorer> go to SD card> locate the bootanimation.zip> then copy by long pressing. Now press the back button then click the mount R/W at the top. Now go to /data/local and paste. After that you need to set the permissions, long press the bootanimation.zip > go to permissions > under read click all three > write only user > all the rest should be unchecked > reboot and enjoy. This is a method I found in another forum and it works every time.

No, you'll need root explorer to do it that way. There is also a way to do it with adb if you don't want to purchase Root Explorer.. but it's a good app to have on hand.
