To make a short story long, I've had my Eris since March. I've been lurking here since and have decided to root using Root for Dummies. I intent to use engtools simply to allow oc and not to change my rom. As I am going through the steps everything is going spot on to the instructionss until I attempt to boot into recovery and do my nandbackup. I've tried every combo of volume up and end call/pwr known to man and my phone just starts normally. Is there a trick I'm missing? I'm on 2.1 OTA with recent update.

I did the same thing a couple times before I just held Vol-up with Power..then got to Recovery menu and was like Aha!

I've been rooted only for a couple of days, on my 3rd rom now, xtrROM3.0.3, it's AWESOME! I couldn't get the volume up power button to work. I gave up on that, I use the call and power buttons and it works fine. Doesn't take you directly into recovery but it works every time.
