I have a couple of questions but first I'm going to give a tip :p

If you want to disable the sound that comes on when you boot your phone you can do so by doing the following:

1.) Use an app like File Explorer to gain access to root.

2.) Make sure you have mount and have read/write permissions.

3.) Go to /Etc and within that folder there's a file called "PowerOn_standard.snd" rename the file by adding something to it like "old" for example rename it to "PowerOn_standardold.snd" That's it! You can revert back to having a boot sound by renaming it back to the original file name.

Interesting Fact: Snd files were first created by Apple, ironic eh?

Ok since I probably helped a few of you out there with that tip maybe someone could return the favor?

I'm trying to find a program for Windows 7 that will be able to convert Mp3 files to .SND files. I would prefer free software please.

Secondly does anyone know of a site that has free .snd file samples?

    Thanks :):)

from a previous post I read if you want to replace the snd files you just need to rename a mp3 file to the same file name and replace mp3 with snd.

you could use root explorer and push the "Mount R/W" button in top right corner.

Hey guys im a huge newbie. just rooted my prevail yesterday thx to this site so i decided to give back a little. I been trying to find a file converter to make .snd files. I gave up and just trying to see if other formats would work but nothing. Finally I converted my mp3 to wav and changed the extension to .snd from .wav and it works perfectly.

interesting, should have known that the boot up is looking for uncompressed files and trying to play the compressed mp3 is like speeding up the playback.

OK, tried this way AND a method I read elsewhere to remove some strings with a hex editor. Neither will play. Wonder what's up then? :(

Found this while browsing the XDA forums, it has a free trail version but ultimately you have to pay for it. At least you can make a few during trial.

Just use Audacity. It's free. It's open source.
The .snd files are just raw data, no header, Stereo, 44100Hz, 16bit PCM.
Just make sure your soundbite is Stereo, and 44100Hz (and like less than 20 seconds. I'm not sure the real limit, but too long is just annoying).
    Click File > Export
Set Save as type: to "Other uncompressed files"
    Click Options
    set Header to "RAW (header-less)"
and Encoding to "Signed 16 bit PCM"
click OK and save the file as PowerOn_standard.snd

It took me like an hour to get that all worked out, and I'm an idiot!
    It's not that hard people
