Hi everyone, So, wanted to root my phone SGS2, followed the instructions posted on here and all was well, perfect even. Then decided to download a custom ROM, and chose the wicked rom from the list. Copied it to my SD card and used CWM to flash an update. Now handset just loops the startup screens without actually starting. Doh!!!! Could someone please help me get back to the time before the Wicked ROM. I appreciate you get loads of these requests,

Are you sure it's looping? It could take a few minutes to boot as it zipaligns all apps and rebuilds the caches. If it's definitely in a bootloop e.g. no boot after > 10mins then remove the battery for two or three minutes, reinsert it, boot into recovery, wipe cache and dalvik-cache then reboot. Failing that a full data wipe (factory reset) might fix it, but that's obviously a last resort.

To recover the easiest method by far is to restore the CWM backup you made before flashing the custom ROM? You did make a backup, didn't you? If not then you'll have to flash your stock firmware version back via Odin.

Thanks very much for your kind advice. After several hours of panic I found the stock kernel for the phone and reinstalled that using Odin, then re-ran the root sequence that you wrote (CF Root v4.1). So now I think I have a rooted phone with an original kernel. I then copied a few ROMs to my SD card and tried to flash them using flash kernel option in CWM. Anyhooooo, it didnt seem to work, got an error message and option to re-boot. Have now quit in fear of totally ruining my handset and mocking of my spouse who thinks its all bollox anyway!!

Don't use the flash kernel option to instal a rom. Use the flash update zip.

Howdie..I m the Dev of WickedROM.
First of all i dont think you have flashed the ROM properly...In CWM recovery,u need to select "flash zip file from internal sd card" then select my ROM's zip file (after clearing cache and dalvik) and then flash.

First boot will take long time.Because its zipaligning for the first time and also an auto EFS backup takes place. You should have been patient :D
Anyways you got a bootloop coz your kernel was corrupted. You could have just flashed a kernel with CWM recovery in PDA section of ODIN.

    EDIT
    -----
From where did you get my original link.?You should have read the Installation instructions

Thanks to all for your advice. Really should not have started this rooting thing. I have to report that my phone is now completely dead. when the power button is pressed all that happens is the Samsung Galaxy logo appears and then disappears and that's it. Nothing else. Cant boot, cant connect to Odin. Wtf have I done. Please, please help or offer me a fair price for a lovely white paperweight.
    Thanks

Transfer rom zip to your internal sd
    power off phone
boot up holding power/home/volume up buttons
    boots you into CWM recovery
    Wipe Data/factory reset
    Wipe Cache
    then in advanced
    Wipe Dalvik-Cache
    Wipe Battery Stats

    now install your latest rom

once your in and happy and have got all your apps on make sure you back everything up.

one thing i learnt the hard way is to back your contacts up to google as kies the POS will not recognise my phone, luckily for me the majority of my contacts are on my works phone aswell
