My galaxy mini 2 fell into a bootloop after taking it to a metro pcs dealer to get a new sim card and phone contract. However a couple of hours after it was just fine. A month later its having the same bootloop again but now it has been like this for a week and looks as if the power button was always pressed. Because as soon as i put in the battery it goes on... and if i repeatedly press the power key it actually starts but then displays the "shut down phone" confirmation and goes off. Is it possible to have a software bug that does this? Or its definitely a short circuit within the power key?

A shorted power switch isn't that uncommon, so I'd suspect that first. Unfortunately it's one of those problems in which the part is almost free, but the labor is quite high. What some people have actually done is remove the switch and solder on 2 short insulated wires. It's messy but it works. (But if you can solder, there's no reason to not replace the switch.)
