General Brand New HTC Droid Incredible Commercial

    Verizon released their first HTC Droid Incredible commercial today. I must say that is it very different from anything they've done for the Motorola Droid... and I like the change. It seems as though they're still keeping it kind of "down low" because they don't even show the Incredible. I just hope that they make some commercials that appeal to women to broaden the Android base. It seems as though the commercial makes the phone for just tech guys.

    I actually quite like this vid. It's a little futuristic, a little mysterious and leaves you wanting more. Since it never shows the phone it makes you go "I need to check this thing out!" Marketing strategies in that vid seem to work imo. But....me still likey.

    Yeah. I was watching Bones last night on Fox and the commercial ran. I caught the last few seconds of it and had to rewind it on my DVR to see the entire commercial because I knew there had been discussion on this forum about the ads for it. I am assuming yesterday was the first day it aired, since it was the official release. Too bad anyone that sees the commercial that wasn't already "in the know" will go to their local Verizon store and ask about the Droid Incredible that they saw a commercial for, only to be told "we are out of stock for another week"...

    That looks quite amazing. If they keep this kind marketing going, the phone will be a huge hit for them.

    The commercial looks nice, but I don't think it's gonna be terribly effective. "1 GHz Snapdragon processor" and "3.7-inch AMOLED screen" don't really mean anything to the general population. Most people don't know the processor speed or screen size of their current phones, much less what "AMOLED" means. Most don't even know why they should care.

    If they want to appeal to non-geeks, they'll need to use terms like "Blazingly fast!" or "Huge screen!"

    Or, even better yet, take a cue from 8th-grade English class and show don't tell. If there's one thing that Apple does right, it's advertising. They show their iPhones running neat apps that people want to use. They make non-iPhone users jealous of iPhone users. Verizon needs to show things like FriendStream, FlashLite, the FM radio, and the 8-megapixel camera with dual flash. Heck, show that the phone has seven screens with moving wallpapers and you'll beat the iPhone.

    As it is, this phone has so many advantages. Words won't do them justice.

    iPhone commercials are better. This isn't a movie trailer for the next Matrix.. .come on that was 1999.

    They need to show WHAT CAN THIS PHONE DO? Apple's agency are the masters of communicating simply to a mass audience in a nonthreatening way. Come on. Show the multi-tasking and flash while Android still has that advantage.

    Here you go my Droid brethren... Unzip, load, and enjoy.

    It's an .ogg file, but it plays just fine on my DI. I have it set up as a notification for Gmail... It's awesome...

    You can download the app zedge. I have the droid sound for my email. It also has lots of ring tones.

    Use 7-zip or WinRAR to unzip it, or Windows can extract it as well. Then, put it on your SD card (probably in a Ringtones folder) and it should be seen by DI for setting up with notifications.

    I've got it extracted on my PC and I have my phone connected but I can't figure out where to put the file on the phone so that it gets recognized when I select "notification sound" under "sounds and display."

    *EDIT: I figured it out. I needed to create a folder called "notifications" on the SD card. Thanks for the help.

    I get that they are trying to be very different from Iphone, but wow the way they are doing it is appealing to a veeeeeeeeeeeery niche audience

    there are like 14 people who know what snapdragon and AMOLED are

    I think with them playing off the whole Droid idea the commercial is fine. While there may be alot of people that don't know what a SnapDragon is there are alot that do as well. I think people are starting to learn more about whats in their phones. I think the commercial does two things. It builds anticipation though this should have been done BEFORE the launch. Its also differentiates the Droid line from the iPhone. Its much more masculine where the iPhone ads are really starting to look very cake like.

    I do agree that they don't show enough of the apps running....but is that really their business to do? Remember Apple is advertising its own app store. But when Verizon does this they are kinda advertising for their competition as well. I think it may have to be Google to step up and advertise the app market. Thats gonna be the biggest drawback in the Andnroid model....its gonna be tough to have some consistent marketing.

    alternatively you could download the app mabillo ringtones, just search for mabillo in the market, they have 2 apps, one for ringtones and one for wallpaper, both are great in my opinion, the droid sound is on there, along with lots of other cool ones.

    I'm sorry, but I hate these commercials. I find them appealing to tech guys who hate Apple. I'm using guys as a general term as I know that there are girls who feel the same way. After following this phone for some time, I include myself in the Apple disliking, but the only reason I thought to look for this phone was because I was looking up the Nexus one. The commercials show nothing of what the phone can actually do for the user. I mean AMOLED screen, 8 megapixel camera, etc? I OWN the phone and I'm not sure what an AMOLED screen other than it's really nice. But I'm not a techie, like most of the general population.

    I was really hoping that they would leave the advertising to HTC. I LOVE HTC's "You" commercials. There are some commercials that appeal to the public outside of specs. I mean, it's fine to say that people who don't appreciate the fine specs of the phone should just buy an iPhone, but that doesn't make sense from a business perspective. I agree that the commercials should show people actually using the phone, playing up the Google connection, and showing people how freaking pretty it is.

    Then again, I was surprised that the original Droid campaign was considered a success. Not to say that it wasn't, but I didn't think it was appealing at the time so what the hell do I know.

    So I really think that they aren't quite pushing the Incredible campaign that much. I have been watching tv all the time, since I am home for summer vacation and I rarely see the commercials. I have seen the Incredible commercial once, but the droid commercial at least 3 times a day. However, on the radio is where I am really seeing the incredible ads, but even then they still finish the spot off with the droid. I get the feeling that they want to push this phone, but the droid is still their baby.

    EXACTLY!! This commercial is a waste of money. I don't care about droid robot noises, red flashes, Hal-9000 wanna be red eyes...blah blah blah. What makes the iPhone commercials so successful is they highlight apps and features that appeal to customers. HTC/Verizon need to high focus on the strengths of the Incredible, not some gimmicky commercial. Highlight features such as:


    • Multitasking (Yeah...it's coming to iPhone OS4, but beat them to it)
    • 8 Megapixel camera W/Flash (Even the leaked next-gen iphone is limited to 5)
    • Speech to Text (OMG, this feature ROCKS! Setup a commercial showing the safety benefits or how quickly you can find information by speaking)
    • Sense UI (It's gorgeous!)
    • FREE Turn by Turn Navigation
    • Visual Voicemail
    • Built in FM Radio
    • How the Verizon Network has more 3G Coverage vs iPhones AT&T plan
    • Availability of unlimited data, text, voice plans
    • Ability to tether via Mobile Broadband Connect
    • Friend Stream/Facebook Integration
    • The ability to silence your phone by simply turning it over (I could see this shot for a business meeting commercial)
    • The ability to add memory via MicroSD Cards
    • 480x800 WVGA AMOLED Touch screen
    • Over the Air updates
    • Support for Flash Lite out of the box

    I could go on and on. Notice how NONE of these features are highlighted in the commercial. Come on VZ...stick it to em!!!
