With the power off, hold the x+power key and tell us what comes up. Should be either SPRecovery or Clockwork Mod recovery. That'll get us started.

Great! It's an older recovery but it'll work. Go here and download the newest Froyo Bugless Beast:
[ROM STABLE] Bugless Beast V0.4 Android 2.2 FRF84B (Fully Deodexed) - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum

You'll want to power up your phone normally, connect it to the PC with the USB cable, and move the file to the ROOT of the SD card (not in a folder). Do that and then get back to me.

Realize that - as we go through this - we have to wipe the phone's data and cache so you may have to redo some stuff.

Do I need to go to the market and get some sort of file manager so I can put the downloaded file to the Root of the SD card?

Nope. Just open the SD card's window to view the files on the PC and drag & drop. Just make sure the file isn't in a folder on the SD card.

You're halfway there!

Also, digdug hit it: make sure we do this on at least a 50% charge on the battery.

Once the file is on the SD card, rename it "update.zip"

When you connect the phone to the PC and enable USB mass storage, you should get a prompt to "open folder to view files". Try that and let's make sure it's there.

Excellent! Here's what happens next:

Go back into SPRecovery (X+power) and use the volume buttons to navigate up & down, and the camera button to select. The power button goes to the previous menu.

Select wipe data/factory reset. There will be lots of NO's and one yes.

After the data and cache clear, use the power button to go back to the main menu. Select "install"

Select "Allow SD-card update.zip" and it will flash quickly. Then hit "install update.zip.

Bugless Beast will extract itself onto your phone. Once it's done, power button back to the main menu and "reboot system now"
