I picked up a used droid which appears to have been rooted (only going by what I
With the power off, hold the x+power key and tell us what comes up. Should be either SPRecovery or Clockwork Mod recovery. That'll get us started.
Ok it say SPRccovery
Great! It's an older recovery but it'll work. Go here and download the newest Froyo Bugless Beast:
[ROM STABLE] Bugless Beast V0.4 Android 2.2 FRF84B (Fully Deodexed) - Droid Forum - Verizon Droid & the Motorola Droid Forum
You'll want to power up your phone normally, connect it to the PC with the USB cable, and move the file to the ROOT of the SD card (not in a folder). Do that and then get back to me.
Realize that - as we go through this - we have to wipe the phone's data and cache so you may have to redo some stuff.
also make sure your phone is charged!
Do I need to go to the market and get some sort of file manager so I can put the downloaded file to the Root of the SD card?
no you put it ther manually when you connect your phone to your computer via usb cable
Nope. Just open the SD card's window to view the files on the PC and drag & drop. Just make sure the file isn't in a folder on the SD card.
You're halfway there!
Also, digdug hit it: make sure we do this on at least a 50% charge on the battery.
Once the file is on the SD card, rename it "update.zip"
Ok I think the file is in the Root...I moved it using Windows Explorer to the F drive, but I don't see it
If your PC doesn't show the extension, just rename it "update" otherwise you'll end up with update.zip.zip and it won't work.
you dont see it? you need to find the file before you procede. will be easier now on your computer than your phone later
When you connect the phone to the PC and enable USB mass storage, you should get a prompt to "open folder to view files". Try that and let's make sure it's there.
Ok I see the file in the F drive and renamed it update.zip
How much battery do you have? Lots?
Excellent! Here's what happens next:
Go back into SPRecovery (X+power) and use the volume buttons to navigate up & down, and the camera button to select. The power button goes to the previous menu.
Select wipe data/factory reset. There will be lots of NO's and one yes.
disable usb mass storage power off phone hold x and power button...
wow here we go again lol i'll let you two make it from here!!! its so exciting to welcome a fellow newbie to the root world lol
After the data and cache clear, use the power button to go back to the main menu. Select "install"
Select "Allow SD-card update.zip" and it will flash quickly. Then hit "install update.zip.
Bugless Beast will extract itself onto your phone. Once it's done, power button back to the main menu and "reboot system now"
LOL the more the merrier, digdug! Stick around and make sure we don't miss anything (like the battery bit)
Oh BTW the first boot will seem to take forever don't don't sweat it. Your boot animation will have changed, too.
Ok say data wipe complete and thanks to u2 dig
Go ahead and install now
you wil be amazed by your phones new capabilities
Once you log back into your gmail account, let the phone sit awhile as your apps will repopulate the phone and your contacts will come back.
Ok it's booted back up looks like I have to sign in to gmail to sync my contacts...I owe you both a BIG Thank You!!! Is there anything else I need or should do?
