I'm currently using miren browser and find as I browse, the cache increases rating into the internal memory. Obviously I can clear the cache manually or on exiting the app but its not ideal. I have 'cache to SD' ticked but also had the same issue with dolphin hd. Is this a desire specific problem, or is there a way around this ?

I cant really answer about the cache to sd issues, but you ask if this is a desire specific problem.

Answer, probably not. The desire, although it runs HTC sense ontop of android, is still running android and android is the operating system that controls most of what happens on the phone.

Only when there are issues with HTC apps or with htc sense functionality is an issue likely to be desire specific.

The option in miren states 'cache to SD - if available on device' iirc. Which shiqa its not possible on all devices or maybe just gingerbread ? (I'm on froyo)
