If you press +->shortcut->settings->running services, you will get a shortcut to be able to kill any app running in android. This is factory not a ad on.

OTD this one for you, kind of a special shout out^. I don't use it but I thought I would show all the killers out there how to do it right!

Yea, I looked at that earlier. It works a little differently than a regular task killer. If you go look at it in settings you will notice that a lot processes aren't there. It also doesn't mess with sense.

It is dummy proof. You really can't kill anything that will cause you to complain. Well maybe the touch_Input? People that would kill it would be the people that installed this update by the skin of their teeth.

I tested Spare Parts with 2.1, Process Management, still kills Sense.

You could do this in 1.5 too. Though not with a shortcut. Settings > Application Settings > Manage Applications

its not really a task killer like ATK, ATM or Estrongs
Its more like a process viewer and a way to end something quickly, just like going into applications and Force Closing something

I turned my Sense and it is now Undead so now task killer can ever attempt to hurt it again.

Seriously though, if it is killed with something like ATK it will force close and restart....a lot.

So this begs the (rhetorical) question: Why would there be a built in way to kill tasks if the o/s managed everything automatically just fine on it's own? Sure seems to throw that theory out the window, doesn't it?

Not really, no. The phone has always had this type of function. This is more of a convenience feature than anything else.

Same reason Windows has a Task Manager, your car has a spare tire, guys have tools in the garage, and girls carry "those things" in their purse - Just in Case

I would suspect that if you find one, the other will be there too.

I just find it hysterical that you guys get so freaked out about them. It is just a stick of cardboard and cotton, not a grenade.:p

It's for the services only I believe, not actual apps/programs/tasks.

Well, unfortunately, I don't think this feature is going to keep me from using ATK. My phone was kind of sluggish this morning, and battery life lost about 20% in about an hour, no texts, no calls, just browsing around for about 10 min.

I went into this setting and saw 4 things running: [Google] GTalkService, [Calendar] ObexService, [Touch Input] TouchInput, and [Google Voice] UpdateService, all of which have been up for the last 10 hours. So, just for fun, I loaded up ATK and found a whole slew of crap running. Of course, much of it stuff I never opened, like Footprints, Messages, Mail, Browser, etc. Memory was down to 25MB.

Now, I just got up after a restful 10 hours of sleep, so aside from the fact that I never launched a bunch of those, none of that was auto-killed either...

    Doc
