Ok, I figuered out how to tether with the phone. Pair the phone via Bluetooth and go to "Show Bluetooth Devices" and "connect using" and then "access point. Now you have tethered with Bluetooth

Does this then require the extra fees from verizon?

There are also other apps in the marketplace like PdaNet that tether via bluetooth or USB cable. And no it doesn't cost anything extra from Verizon. :)

I tired tethering to my iPad and it doesn't seem to work either. It will pair, but it will not connect.

From what I've read on some iPad forums, the only devices you can pair through bluetooth are the keyboards and earphones. I also tried pairing my X and it was recognized but wouldn't connect.

I have mine paired with my Windows 7 machine. I used it for about 10 minutes last night while tethered to my PC for internet. Works very
    well.

Bingo. Apple devices such as iPhones or iPod Touches cannot connect via Bluetooth.

My old storm worked for a while. Then i started getting a redirect to the verizon "pay for this service or stop doing it" page. I was going to try it again but it seems just as easy to just use the phone.

That is completely incorrect and why you should never post an answer on a forum that you have absolutely no first hand knowledge of or experience with. Apple devices can connect from other Apple devices without any issue. If you have an iPhone4 and an iPad, you can use bluetooth to turn your phone into a camera/video recorder for your iPad. Its actually kind of cool as I have seen it done in person. As long as you are in the Bluetooth signal range, you can walk around with the phone and record video and/or take pictures with the phone that displays and stores on the iPad. Its alot more convenient to do this with a phone than to carry around an iPad or Macbook that has a camera.

    Sigh...

We're talking about TETHERING via BT, not about just connecting devices via BT.

Should be under the Bluetooth settings in the Control Pannel. My Bluetooth settings are in the windows task tray in the lower right corner, you could look there first.

    KACHING

Why has no one thanked this man for the post? This seems like it fills one of the major demands of rooting without downloading any apps even. Sounds like it would do all I need, now I just gotta get home to my new Bluetooth Enabled laptop.

(Wonders what this will do to the battery life of my poor droid X now)

I have not tried this with it plugged into my computer, I would imagine it would work while charging it with the same machine. I will try this later and post an updated youtube video, the one I made a couple nights ago is not very good YouTube - Droid X Bluetooth tethering

Ive done this for years on AT&T. If they do lock it down it will be a while, and by that time there will be other "work arounds".

This is going to be an expensive tip if there is a charge.

I've been doing this on most of my phones, Verizon knows about it but doesnt police it until you start becoming noticeable like over 5GB a month. Its not bad for speed though on the run. I got 1Mbps up and 1/2 Mbps down. Its not my home connection but its fast enough for internet and email. Can't wait to see what 4G speed brings on the next gen devices to come out.
