Does anybody have success recording their calls on the Eris? I have a Motorola Droid, and apparently Motorola has disabled all call recording driver-side, so I am considering switching to an Eris if there is an app which works with it. Don't much care for the Droid's keyboard, anyway.

There are several recording apps in market: AllCallRecorder, CallRecorder, vRecorder, Phone Recorder. Does anyone have any experience with any of these working on the Eris, and if it works, does it work only with the speakerphone on, or all the time?

Completely off topic, any advice on whether I should go for the Eris or the Incredible? I'm not a huge power user, so besides the larger screen and the faster processor, are there any advantages?

I just use the built-in Voice Recorder. Its not automatic, but if I need to record a funny voicemail or conversation, it gets the job done.

I tried AllCallRecorder for a while and it worked great for me.

Did your speakerphone have to be on in order to record both sides of the conversation? What model phone is this on?

If you are going through Google Voice you can also record them there. It works very well and since it has the notification and reminder beeps it can hold up in court.

Good luck with it, and please post if you have any success. I've tried the Eris, Droid, and Incredible, with every program I could find, with no success. Some of the programs worked reliably on the HTC phones, but only recorded through the microphone, so the other party was barely audible unless the call was on speakerphone. The Moto Droid didn't work at all; apparently in-call recording of any kind is disabled in the firmware.
I've since switched back to my old Palm Centro which records all calls to the SD card in the background, in perfect clarity.
I will need to switch to a more capable phone in the future, but I'm waiting for an Android phone to become available which allows recording of both sides of the conversation.

Please read my post under "Recording a phone call...," which covers the legality of recording phone calls, before recording a phone call and possibly breaking the law.

My post is a little hard to miss with the red and bold text.

Good to know, but the legality is essentially of no concern unless you plan to use a recording as evidence or distribute it somehow. I record all my calls strictly for my records, to avoid having to take notes while driving, or so I can go back and hear what promises a CSR made when getting me to sign up for something over the phone. Now if you distribute private conversations like a moron, then you could get sued regardless of notification laws.

This legality discussion is all fine and dandy, but what is the app you are using to record these calls whether they are legally recorded or not?
