call waiting

Hi. Just got my Eris last night and am trying to figure it out. I was using a BB curve so this is different. I am following all battery tips but have a different question. When I am on a call if someone beeps in it is automatically switching me over to this new call. How do I stop that?

OH my God...this happen to me too and it is SO annoying. Actually I was talking to my best friend about my "dumb boyfriend" and it turns out I ended up talking to my dumb boyfriend about my dumb boyfriend with no warning. Thank you call un-waiting.

Are you sure you're not brushing the screen with your cheek? I just tried it, and for me the new call came up with "Answer" and "Decline" buttons, and when I ignored it the new call went to voicemail.

The screen stayed on even when the phone was next to my ear, so it seems it would be easy to cheek "Answer". Using the proximity sensor to avoid false operations seems like a not-quite-complete work in progress.

Proximity sensor has never failed to work for me.

I can only assume I cheek answered. I was talking and holding the phone normally. Is there another way?

Right, I wasn't saying that it doesn't work as designed, just that when a call waiting call comes in, the screen turns on even if next to your cheek. That's probably the right behavior but if you have the phone brushing your cheek it'd be easy to accidentally hit one of the screen buttons.

Silly question.. but lets say I'm on the phone and I get another call and actually answer it... blah blah blah then decide to hang up to get back to the original caller, how do I end the call without hanging up on the original party?

I just hang up on the party I am talking to and then a few seconds later the phone rings for the other party. Just answer it like it was a new call.

All this time, I didn't think my Eris 1.5 had call waiting. I don't know that it has ever worked (if it did when I first got the phone, it does not now). Is there a phone or VZW setting that I need to set to re-enable C-W? Very annoying all incoming calls go to vmail when I'm in a call.
