does anyone know if their caller id that shows up on someone else's phone or maybe their home land line when they're calling out, if it shows their name as well as phone number?

i know my motorola krzr showed my name in my caller ID whenever i called someone and with this MT3G it's just showing "cellphone VA," and the number

i've been dicking with Tmobile customer svc now for about 3 weeks and every customer svc agent has confirmed that it should be showing my name and they've checked the account settings as well as had me check my phone's settings

it's important for me anyway, as a number of my clients won't answer their cellphone if the caller ID doesn't show a name, and i know mine did before but now with this MT3G it's not

just got off the phone with a higher level idiot at Tmobile that tried to tell me it won't unless whoever i'm calling has me in their contact list with name attached to my number - but that didn't make sense as the calls that come in here (i sell nationally off print media and web ads) will usually show callers' name and number even though i dont' have them listed in a contact list

    appreciate in advance

Ive never had a phone other than a home phone/land line tell me someones name with the number unless its been saved in my contacts.... im not saying youre wrong, but ive been through like 8 or 9 different cell phones in the past 8 years and have been unlucky for none of them having this feature.

something i didn't mention - even when i call my wife's phone (she has me listed in her contacts) it doesn't recognize my phone number and display me by name - instead it displays the same "cellphone Va with number"
  4. That's how it's been for us. My wife and I had Motorola phones (RAZR & KRZR) before upgrading to the MyTouch and our names & numbers showed up on peoples caller IDs. Once we made the switch only the phone number and "Cell Phone TX" appears on peoples caller IDs' now. Unless they have us as a contact of course.

the customers i deal with are extremely high end and quirky as hell (hell, some are certifiable but they've got the income to afford the toys i sell, so i can't be too judgmental) - i can't risk losing a sale or offending a customer that might think i didn't return his call cause he didn't recognize me on the screen

i hate to have to go back to a krzr but.....

    tks for the response DeadPlasmaCell

maybe you could not screen calls? Or if theyre the ones who screen calls... you could leave a message? it would be a damn shame to have to go back to the old phone.

unfortunately that's not a totally reliable solution - you have to deal with some of these guys to appreciate what i'm talking about - one customer is a pure genius, Forbes has written about a dozen articles on companies he's built and sold (last one he built with $1M in capital, sold four years later for $198M - and he is truly certifiable - i suspect half of his success has hinged on him selecting capable managers that were able to keep his feet attached to planet earth

i sell these guys their high end toys, tooys that are rare - and when one becomes availabl they each want to be the first to know -
if they learn i sold it to someone else, then they drop interest in me as a venue (ie they get pissy) no matter i tried to contact

messaging - i might get a response 3 weeks after i left it and they'd still be pissy which would/could translate into losing a customer forever or for a short while till i come up with another toy that makes them regret having gotten pissy with me - i feel like half my job descript is being a psychologist - i kid not

i may have to just get another line, no data, the $29.95 500 minute plan just for the krzr

that would seem to be a good idea.. especially if it means losing customers if you dont.

Hmmm.. You post over at the T-Mobile fourm as well. I just realized this evening that my phone does the same thing. When I look at phone status, at my telephone number, it says unknown. It never did this before....

Truely perplexing. So Larry, what kind of Toys do you sell? :D

something pretty politically incorrect and no, it's not porn
  12. OBAMA Chia pet?

Might want to look into using GV when doing outgoing calls to these people. IIRC, you can set the caller ID stuff up for that, but I could be wrong.

nope, not kenyan chia pets but i have seen someone offering those

tks for the GV suggestion - i went to their website and there's isn't any indication of info on what you can do to set up individual caller ID

plus, i'm a little leary of google collecting too much info on me - hell, it took me a hard swallow to sign up for my Gmail acct
