If I am not mistaken the forward looking camera is 1 mgp, but the rear facing camera is 8 mgp. Is this correct? If so, why?

I'm not particularly impressed with the camera's picture quality at all.

Front facing camera is smaller because it's meant for video conferencing like Skype.

You don't need a top notch camera. If you do then you use the rear facing camera.

It also helps with bandwidth during video conferencing. Smaller MP means less data is being transferred which means smoother video.
