Help Can a 3.5A charger be used on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge?

The charger has an output of 5V - 3.5A. Can this 3.5A charger be used on the Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge? Will the higher output damage the S7 Edge when it is used for charging the device?

Provided the charger has passed any relative national safety tests it should be fine. Properly-designed chargers will only supply whatever current the connected device requires; its max output may be 3.5A but an S7 will limit itself to (iirc) 2A @ 5V.

Thanks for the advice. Yes, that is a charger that "passed national safety tests".

It is a Pwr+ charger that is UL certified as shown in photo, available from Amazon.

I have looked at Belkin, Logiix, Pure Gear, Kanex, etc chargers and none of these brands are UL certified (not listed on website or photos).

There is a misconception that a power supply ( charger ) that can provide more than rated requirements will damage electronic equipment.

Nothing could be further from the truth.
The voltage requirement is the critical thing to watch, if it has a 5V output, it does not matter.

The phone's internal charger regulator determines how much current will be drawn by the device.


Think of it this way. A car's battery can provide up to 600+ amps at maximum discharge.
but you car's radio only requires a few hundred milliAmps to operate.
