I have rooted my HTC Desire with Unrevoked3 using
How To: Root the HTC Desire (Unrevoked Method) (Updated 1.18.11) | TheUnlockr
and i did not make a gold card before it was rooted.

After the image was installed i did a nandroid backup on the Froyo 2.2 Stock settings branded to orange.

I then flashed a custom rom - Gingerbread - Ginger Villain 1.1 and mods atm

    I was wondering if I;
1)Can i create a new gold card for my device following the guide but my phone has been rooted already?

2)If I had stock Froyo 2.2 on HTC Desire branded to Orange updated via OTA - Can a gold card be made with this? - Some guides said it cannot be done and may need to be downgraded to create a gold card

    3) Since the phone is rooted now, I was wondering what is the best way to unroot the device and load back a Orange Branded Rom to return if needed for Warranty purposes?

    Thanks

    1) Yep. Goto the market and run goldcard helper to get your image.

    2) I don't see why not.

    3) RUU, don't worry about it until the time comes. It only confuses the newly rooted.

EDIT:SUroot has a FAQ about it.

    Are you sure about 2)?
As on the goldcard rooting URL there is a message:
"Before you start to root your branded(locked) Desire you need to know how to make GoldCard
IMPORTANT - this tutorial will not work if you have installed 2.2 OTA update from HTC!"

Also for 3) have you got a link to any stock Orange UK RRU that i can use so in the future if i need to return the phone for warranty i know which to restore.

What i understand is that each sdcard has their own cid code which this is then converted into a img file for a gold card to be created with binary.

do you know what the gold card is actually needed for? and how does this help when trying to restore to a stock rom via flashing an RUU

as im a bit confused on why a gold card is actually needed and each sdcard cid is needed?

    Thanks for your help

You can make a goldcard on any rom, its fine. You can make it on custom roms, Branded, 2.2. Just use the link to the goldcard guide in my FAQ.

I dont even think you need to make it in a phone. A card reader may do.

However I dont think (unless one was recently release) there is an RUU for Orange.

My phone was an UK Orange 2.2and the gold card helper worked for me! As you have a branded device the gold card is needed to run the RUU, the gold card is the only way you'll get beyond the CID check.

SUroot has a faq about it.

EDIT: Did it really take me that long to write that?

I don't think Orange have released a rom either.
