i am completely inexpierenced when it comes to rooting phones such as the eris which is why i am starting a thread. ive looked at many others about this topic but could never seem to find the right answer. i downloaded 2.1 legally from verizon or whatever and am wondering what is the best and easiest way to root my droid eris with 2.1.

    snowboardVT,

    Welcome to the Android Forums!

You should look at the links in this stickied thread:

    http://androidforums.com/eris-all-t...ated-links-updated-oct-1-2010-4-44pm-est.html

In there, you'll find two very easy methods for rooting your Eris:

    1. http://androidforums.com/eris-all-t...is-app-apk-no-pcs-no-scripts-needed-easy.html - this method is very simple, but is lacking in some detail regarding root concepts and information about what is actually being done

    2. http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/127861-universal-eris-root-dummies.html - this method is also fairly simple, but excels in providing information and images that show you the start-to-finish steps for rooting and all of steps in between

Reading through both threads will allow you to see questions by other people who were in your shoes too and what answers were given to help them.

    Hope this helps.

Since I was inexperienced, I also used a video tutorial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dmncIGCx7A

I was inexperienced also! I used the Universal 1 Click because I had read enough threads to know what exactly was happening, just wanted to do it! 1 Click was very simple and effective. After I rooted, I didn't load a custom rom for a few days (had to build my courage back up again). I loaded xtrROM 4.6 and love it so far! It still gives the feel of stock 2.1 without being too many major differences.

    Hope that helps!
