I have had the phone for 2.5 weeks, from sprint. is there a way to update the HERO to 2.0 and how would I? as you can see I am new to Android
Thx for fast answer, I looked at the phone and it shows I have ver 1.5 should I upgrade to the 1.6 is it worth it? or hold out for the 2.0 and will the phone handle 2.0?
i guess I am reading something wrong is it only a UK ver, not a US? Android 1.6: a better experience - ZDNet.co.uk
Thats on other Android phones. Hero uses HTC's special Sense UI so Android updates have to be modified. I'm guessing that HTC saw no reason for a small update as such as rumour is they are going straight from 1.5 to 2.0. http://androidforums.com/htc-hero/12914-htc-hero-get-android-2-0-a.html
The android OS is only one part of the hero's firmware. Below it you have device drivers for the phone's hardware, and sitting on top of it you have HTC's SenseUI front end. HTC have to integrate the rest of this stuff into the android 1.6 OS (drivers no big job, sensui is a bigger issue) before it can be released. Rumours recently abound that they wont be bothering with 1.6 and will jump straight to 2.0, so you may have a bit of a wait (but it will be worth it, cos 1.6 doesnt really offer anything to get excited about over 1.5) Edit: wow, i took a very long time to post this, and in the meantime i got usurped.
