Root Can rooted Event be brought back to stock?

I rooted my Event when I bought it, and over the next two months, sudden reboots and bootloop occurrences became more and more prevalent. The only change made to the phone over the period was adding a microSD card and moving a number of apps to the SD card. Now the phone will not boot up into normal mode. I get the Kyocera splash, the Virgin Mobile animation, screen dims slightly and then the phone reboots. Going through recovery and wiping the cache or resetting it have no effect.

I can use the phone in Safe Mode, but I would like to be able to use my apps again. Is it possible to return the phone to stock and then re-root it? Or am I stuck with Safe Mode only at this point?

Any help is appreciated.
