Can you change the keyboard that is provided with the HTC Sense UI to the default android keyboard? Is it something you download from the market to change keyboards?

    Inside your monitor.
I think if you turn Sense off, it goes to the stock keyboard. Of course, you can always install an alternate one from the market like Swype.

If the Evo is running 2.1 anything like the Hero, unless you install a different keyboard, no there's no way to get the normal Android one.

I don't think Swype will be available on the Market for the Evo.

Not in the market, but if you have nice people... (XDA) they might have a hook up with some form of .apk..... just sayin'.

Please don't post links. I would appreciate a PM though. I don't like this thread to be erased for infractions regarding intellectual property rights. :D

Why can't a link be posted to XDA for something like that? They're not really a competing forum when they serve an entirely different need within the community. Here we can discuss, ask questions, speculate, etc...and there we can get all of our "developer" needs satisfied.

To answer the OP, I'm running both Swype and Better Keyboard.

I like Swype but am using Better Keyboard for now. The latter wins for me because of voice to text capabilities.

According to SprintFun, it has nothing to do with linking to XDA, but linking to software that is "not legally available."

It does not on the HTC Eris or Hero.

No it does not. I just worked with 2 neighbors last night, one with the Hero and one with the Eris. Both recently upgraded to 2.1 and the HTC sense UI did not have the voice to text icon on the keyboard. It did have voice search on the browser and maps but not on any other keyboard, IE, messenger. That is why I did the research and found this link.

Voice to text was on the keyboard on my previous Incredible though.

The arrow keys exist on the Evo because we don't have an optical trackpad of any sort, like most other Android phones. With the trackpad, you can use it to maneuver through text fields. Without it, they needed to rig up a tool to navigate through text fields.

My hope is that the touch screen is big enough and responsive enough that I can just touch to put the cursor where I want it to be, because those giant arrows are ugly.

I'd do a LMGTFY but that would constitute a link.

google this: " [replace this with a word of your choice] apk "

Here's an example. If you wanted to find a free open source legal TeddyBear app, you'd google:

    Teddybear apk
