Hi all, my iPhone 4S is really old and I am getting sick of the small screen of it. So I want to try an Android smartphone with big display this time. The display size should be at least 5.5-inch (6.0-inch will be cool). And the price of it should be around $100, not over $120.

In my daily life, I use the phone to watch movie a lot, that's why I need the screen to be a big one. Besides, I want it has a durable battery life, strong WiFi signal and not overheated.

Do you have any good recommendation of it? Welcome to leave your comment and I will be appreciated for it.

That's a tough one I'm afraid. HTC makes a decent line of inexpensive large screen phones, but I'll be hard pressed to actually recommend one. I can tell you to avoid anything with less than 16Gb of internal storage. The more recent the android version the better.
HTC is a well known brand and support is likely to continue for a while.
Price is also going to depend a lot on the individual carriers as well and what specials they are running.
Basically with Android you get what you pay for, but there are some that are better than others.

Who is your carrier? You willing to switch?

MetroPCS has a $99 phone. The ZTE Zmax Pro. It is well worth the $99.

It has a big screen as well

6in screen, around a $100 bucks, nope...not even in China. Certainly nothing I would touch. Can you stretch to $200? Unless you get carrier subsidized ones?

Wouldn't it be better to borrow the money and get a cheaper calls deal than to pay the outrageous finance charges that carriers levy?

Is that how it works, is it? Metro PCS or whatever? I'm in China, things like that don't happen here. We always pay same price for the phones upfront, and if haven't got the money there and then, borrow it from a bank or something. China Unicom, etc. are not moneylenders. :D

I know here, not going to get a good phone with a 6in screen for equivalent of $100 bucks. Double that, should be able to get something usable.

MetroPCS is prepaid. Merged w/Tmobile in 2012 so it uses Tmobile towers.

$99 + whatever fees Metropcs charges for new subscribers.

You might be able to make your money go a little bit further by buying a used device if in the US. Most will not ship internationally.
Good place to find used devices with clean IMEI and ready to activate.

With a budget in that $100-120 range and going by what you intend to use this phone to do (play videos), you will really need to adjust your expectations accordingly. Video taxes a phone resources in a significant way, creating heat (both the CPU and GPU are working a lot harder than usual) and tapping the battery. A low end phone is going to have sluggish performance to begin with (along with reliability and longevity issues) so even if you think you're saving money, you're also going to be paying with a lot of frustration.

Purchased the zmax pro on Friday from Metro for only $125 including taxes. I'm already a customer. Gotta say you wouldn't regret it coming from a 4S then again the screen size may be issue for you.

My plain, simple advice is to NOT buy a smartphone at $120 max.
Your only fooling yourself to expect it to operate decently...

I have an LG smartphone I bought from Walmart, it is through straightalk. The only issues I have is the data cap I get towards the end of each month. I watch videos and movies on mine all the time without any issues though until they decide I have used too much data haha

Duh, forgot to ask if this $100-120 price cap is referring to buying a phone as is or the 'subsidized price' of a phone tied to a typical 2-yr contract.

How about the vkworld T1 Plus? It has 6.0-inch display, 4300mAh battery, Android 6.0, fingerprint touch ID and gyroscope for this price range. Did anyone heard of vkworld before?

My advice, keep your $100, keep your iPhone 4, and save up more. The only phones you'll see at that price range are phones whose innards are 5 year old tech with new covers. Hence, basically same performance as your current iPhone.

Looking at what your daily use will be in your first post, watching movies, how about a 7 to 10 inch wifi only tablet? Lots of good used devices in the $80 to $120 range. Especially if you only stream over wifi anyway.

Well.. the Moto G4 Play is $149 unlocked with a 5 inch screen. I've seen it on sale for less a couple times. Hard to find a good quality new phone for less.

Maybe check with your carrier, they might have a phone on sale.
