Help Can you remove default contact groups?

I want to remove some of the default contact groups like "VIP". I already have one called favorites why would I want VIP and favorites? Seems redundant.

This is for a HTC EVO

I dont think you can. If you longpress them, you can only edit them, not delete. I would just leave them empty, they arent causing any harm.

No its not harmless. If you are trying to keep things organized its a pain. I have at least 10 categories already and the extra make things messy.

I use Google Apps, and the default groups on my EVO do not appear in my Google Contacts. Meaning, "Mom" is in my Family group on the phone, but Family group does not exist in Google Apps contacts. However, if I add the "Family" group to my Google Apps contacts, then TWO "Family" groups appear on my phone.
