    Hey all

Just got my new Hero & was wondering if there is a way you can turn off the start up tones that chirp away when you first turn the phone on?

Sorry if its a bit of a stupid question. I have a feeling this phone is gonna keep me busy for a good few months

    Cheers

In the folder system/media/boot screen there is a boot.mp3, could try deleting that

In the same folder there is a boot.xml file, could try editi-g that too and removing the path for the audio, remember to save a copy

On a case-by-case basis doesn't holding down the volume-down key when booting prevent boot-up sounds? Seems to work for me in the train in the morning in the no-mobile carriages and the dreaded commuter glare.

I think if the phone is silent when you turn it off it wont make a noise when it's turned back on.

The answer does depend upon what you mean by turning the phone on and off. The Hero, like most smartphones, is designed to be left on. In fact if you switch it off it won't get any calls, hence defeating its main purpose.

So don't switch off with the long press (unless phone is playing up). Short press will switch screen off and back on. Neither have any sounds

+ 1 if its on slient it wont make any noise.
if its on vibrate only it wont make the sound only the lite buzz
